DeVante Looking Good In OTAs, BUT…

DeVante is looking sharp and making plays in OTAs a reason for excitement?

DeVante Parker has all the tools… in OTAs

DeVante Parker is going through OTAs for his 3rd regime… and he has never looked better. But, it’s so early in the process and there isn’t any contact. Then there is Parker’s history of early blossom and quick wilts that screams, ‘hold your horses’. Fans and coaches have been here before believing the breakout season is coming.

Could the redemption arc of DeVante Parker be around the corner this time? Or will Lucy pull the ball away from Charlie Brown again?

The odds with the pay per head services aren’t good that there will be a big course correction. Of course, they have been wrong before.

Parker is just one area of the Miami Dolphins that is looking to turn over a new leaf. Heck, the franchise itself is attempting to rise from the ashes. So where does Parker’s story rank amid the many redemption stories of the 2019 Miami Dolphins?

Did I miss any? Is Parker 2nd on the list of player Cinderella stories for Miami?

DeVante Parker could be a crucial poster boy to the value of Brian Flores’ influence… if he ‘gets right’

Athleticism and physical talent have never been a weakness of #11. Parker’s problems have always revolved around professionalism, toughness, and durability. With the ink on Parker’s new 2-year contract barely dry…

here we are again, tantalized by the potential and possibilities.

Parker made two beautiful catches over Xavien Howard and dominated in the Red Zone. As Omar Kelly said, ‘Parker is the starting Wide Receiver in all the drills… never saw that before.’ Then there was all the gushing by the staff over every success Parker has in OTAs. This is excellent coaching, but it points to a major problem Parker has: weakness.

Only Parker has received (and needed) such adoration. Given the staff reserved treatment of the rest of the receivers, they didn’t ‘require’ the perpetual ‘pep talk’. Yes, this continued igniting of Parker’s ego could start a blaze. This is smart coaching and the right move. there’s no doubt that IF Parker should bloom, fans, this regime, and Parker himself will reap huge positive returns.

Still, I’m finding it hard to buy into his hype this year.

After last year’s ‘water drinking debacle’, I wrote this article and took a little heat for being harsh. Some thought I ‘was hating’. It’s not that I don’t like the kid. There’s nothing about him that’s ‘bad’. But football is a harsh game of production. In the NFL finish nice guys finish last more often than not… unless they have another face when the pads go on.

Grier and Flores are approaching Parker the right way

While it felt like Grier was chasing his tail by extending Parker… it was the right move. The Cap isn’t tight this year, and the Dolphins needed to give this new regime a chance to help Parker reach his potential. Brian Flores and his staff are doing the right thing by talking Parker up to heal his damaged psyche. Even DeVante is doing the right thing by coming out and performing lights out.

None of this will matter if when the pads come on Parker can’t handle the abuse. So don’t get excited till the Preseason Games come and Parker shines… and remains healthy. Still, we should all root for his success… just don’t get too invested. As it was once said, “There’s nothing worse than wasted talent.”Go Phins!!!
