Dolphins Actually Sticking To Their Plan!

The Dolphins have been wishy-washy over the years

The Miami Dolphins said they were going into full rebuild mode…

… and by the way they’re handling Free Agency they mean what they say.

Surprising.

Who actually thought they’d stick to the plan with a Super Bowl in Miami this year?

They didn’t spend big and let veterans walk, which is actually what you are supposed to do in a full rebuild.

The Dolphins are the big losers of the 2019 Free Agency period… good.

The loss of a generational player in Cameron Wake makes all of us at Phinsnews.com truly sad to see him go. But it’s all part of the new game plan: Out with old and in with the new generation.

Hopefully, this new generation is better than the old one.

Veterans Frank Gore, Danny Amendola, Ja’Wuan James, and Josh Sitton were told ‘no thanks’. Aging veterans aren’t the future of this team. But also some younger guys were dismissed as well. Leonte Carroo, Jake Brendel, and Mike Hull didn’t receive their tenders.

Two big price tag players in Ryan Tannehill and Robert Quinn
curiously remain.

DeVante Parker receiving an extension was a bigger surprise.

The ‘big’ signings were both former Patriots players. Those guys are familiar with Coach Flores and the Patriots ‘winning culture’.

Let’s see if this actually end up the case.

The Dolphins signed a very good blocker in TE Dwayne Allen, which isn’t flashy… but it’s crucial. They also just signed DB Eric Rowe to a heavily performance-based contract.

What are the Dolphins going to do with all their savings?

The Dolphins have just over $25 million in cap space. Depending on the next couple of weeks, they could Free upwards of around $50 million on their Cap. This is all good news because the Dolphins team salary has been an issue for years. This is a good start at ditching bad contracts, giving them room to carry over extra cap space next year.

This extra cap space can be used to give new–and bigger–contracts to Howard and Tunsil who are the future of this team. These two players are excellent cornerstones to build off.

At least we can hope this will be what Miami does with their new found cap space.

Unfortunately, all the other teams in the AFCE have become better

It’s ‘tough swallow’ when you see our rivals like the Jets, Pats, and Bills make nice additions. Unfortunately, these teams both have Franchise Quarterbacks. The Jets and Bills have young ones ta’ boot.

The Phins have neither a young nor good Franchise Quarterback.

On paper, we are the red-haired stepchild… but don’t count this ginger out just yet.

While it’s good that the Dolphins are actually sticking to their plan… the best PPH sportsbook program like Ace Per Head, on the market is predicting the Dolphins will be vying for the bottom of the barrel this year.

Yeah, they predicted this same outcome last season… and we ‘rose’ to mediocrity. But, 2019 looks like this time it will actually come true.

I can live with that IF this gives us the chance to select one of the top QBs in the 2020 Draft. The 2020 draft is expected to have a superb QB draft class that may finally help us find the right one… finally.

Will we find the right one is the question.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about what the Dolphins have done so far this offseason?

    Nice analysis!

Senior analysts Steve Palazzolo and Mike Renner discussion about the eight QB s at this year’s Senior Bowl was not about the Best QB’s in the 2019 NFL draft “But” Steve and Mike highlight each player’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as their projected outlook for each prospect.

There are some phrases that I’m learning that may separate Quarterbacks most likely to succeed in the NFL. Having a bunch of good Stats get’s us every season. But does not measure how these QB’s will handle NFL pressure.

    Some key words:
    1. Armed Strength
    2. Zipped on his passed to make you go “Wow”
    3. Yards after the receiver catches the Ball (Quarterback Stidham had the most of the QB’s listed)
    4. Accuracy

Admin this list of 8 Quarterbacks are arguably later round quarterbacks. Drew lock who has the big arm etc. is questionable being in the 1st round? Why because of being inconsistent.

Jarrett Stidhan was listed a third or 4th rounder but Questionably could be a 1st rounder? I’m thinking would be a value pick at 3rd or 4th rounder. Who has the ability to be a 1st rounder: Admin and Fin-Fans maybe he was surrounded by a poor offensive line at Auburn.

During the 2018 Mid football college season. I was really on the Drew Lock band wagon until his struggle with unconsistent play.

But maybe his supporting cast were totally substandard? Then sone described him to Jay Cutyler big arm/ very capable but inconsistent.

    • admin

That’s not good… studied him a bit. His accuracy can be all over the place. Terrible on the move. Footwork improvement could fix it… could is a scary word that gets many fired.

  • Steve

True we cannot lose compensatory picks.

    • admin

Thay are a very important part to this system… we need to bring in maximum rookies every year… more of them more a chance to hit.

  • admin

Someone was reporting Lock intrigues them… I need to spend time watching his film more to see where I stand 57% is slow comp. But maybe there are factors and correctable issues…

… need to look a Finley as well.

Brett would be a fantastic back up taken out the 4th or 5th round.

I like his abilty to work with traffic around and see the right read and took some snap from under center… but he has loads of space, wide open receivers and a little to jump ball with his throws. NFL CB’s will pick that off. Still, for a late round picks… I’m down. Thanks. It was a good watch.

Many experts are just over looking Stidham, for the the Dolphins he would be an exciting player to watched play. Checked out his game against Alabama and Clemson defensive rushed etc. He can truly handle the NFL passed Blisse’s etc.

Not a fan… so many screens that inflate his comp %. Not very accurate. Tends to run under pressure. Just a cursory look, though… but he wasn’t good against Alabama or Clemson. I wouldn’t take him until later… but what do I know… I need to study these guys more before I have a firm opinion.

I like Stidham over Wil Grier and Drew Lock as a 3rd or 4th rounder I like his leadership, toughness, deep ball, zip on the ball, “Key Factor Admin”Remember he played against the best three teams in 2017 college. I believed in Stidman to become an NFL starter, I really hope the Dolphins Draft him, yes 2018 was a down year for him. But Asked Miami Dolphins Minka Fitzpatrick about Stidham in this game:

Admin and Dol-Phin what do you think?

Ryan Finley many experts think he should go in the 1st round.

Finley would not be my selection the positive facts are there!

    Nice Article Admin!

Selecting a Quarterback who is truly a 1st rounder, means for the Dolphins we are starting to moved in the right direction even if it does not work out this season draft another 1st rounder the next draft etc.

Our Miami Dolphins are at the 13th picked:
    1. We can stay put and wait for Haskins or Drew Lock to fall to the Dolphins.
    2. Secondly we can trade back and take Finley who many think is the most NFL ready.
    3. Thirdly we can draft Jarrett Stidham from Auburn in the third round, I like Stidman as the 3rd Quarterback.
“(I Believed he is a play maker)”, great in the red zone, great on third downs. He was on a sorry College football team.

Quarterback at Boise State Brett Rypien is most likely the best Back/up Quarterback coming out of college. Which is not a bad thing as a 4th or 5th rounder.

Thanks, this as Jimmy’s though… with my wonderful edits 🙂 I prefer Grier over Stidham… but that’s just from a quick glance and QB’s going into the NFL aren’t my strength in evals… so take it will a ton of salt. Need to look at Finley next….

  • Van E Hamlin

Jimmy! Doing a great job. My problem with the Dolphins plan is it is one dimensional. They are cutting but they don’t seem capable of looking into the future for rebuilding. It looks as though the draft is the only source of new players this year.
A veteran QB or an interior lineman would have helped. I don’t see us getting the top QB picks this year. Grier might be a good second round pick.
The management cannot rely on getting their QB next year either.
The new coach may have been told that he has 5 years but he’s really has 3. Draft picks will just be maturing when this guy is let go.

    • admin

… and his editor and co-writer too 🙂 Jimmy used to pump out articles, but now I get only 2-3 a month. We had a real good writer and editor in Lemmus– he helped me a ton in getting my act right… but tragedy struck… and I fear the worst. Great guy. Missed on every level.

You’re right it is a one-dimensional build… but that’s how you build for 3-5 years down the road. If we sign players now we lose compensatory picks. Compensatory picks are a big piece of this formula. We are building through the draft and cheap FAs and UDFAs. Now the problem is they must hit at a B+, at least for the first few years, and they must find a competent QB. “The management cannot rely on getting their QB next year either.” I agree. They must start looking this year. Flores’ contract is a 5 year deal all guaranteed. He’ll be here for 5 years win lose or draw… unless he ends up like Jackson. But as I said, it’s a win-win if he stacks up talent for the next HC. Good talent pool could lure good coaches back to South Florida.
