Cameron Wake possess elite character, physical abilities, and charisma
Cameron Wake signed a 19 Million dollar extension with the Miami Dolphins keeping him on the roster till 2018.
Yes, Wake will be 38 years old in 2018…
But, is anyone worried that he won’t be broken down in two years?
Not me.
I’m not saying I expect an All Pro season at 38, but it wouldn’t shock any Real Bookies gambling odds at all if he did.
Watching Wake bounce back from an Achilles tear, and have the season he did at the age of 35, was nothing short of incredible. And barring some crazy injury, at 38 he will still be a contributor and an amazing leader.
This signing is more than keeping Wake, it shows once again, Miami is heading in the right direction. The Dolphins are keeping there own and keeping the right ones.
I’d say there is a message in this move.
Notice that directly after a bunch of players were cut Wake received an extension: Miami keeps those who help the team and dumps those who don’t.
If this is indeed the message being sent, it isn’t a personal one that will make players feel resentment.
On the contrary, the players understand better than anyone who is holding them back and who is helping them. And money and wins go hand-in-hand, so they want success for the love of money as well as the feel of being victorious.
Wake has been the best Dolphin since Taylor and Thomas
I was slow to see that Mario Williams being put on the Post Season roster was a public relations move and not a logistical one( thanks Fritz). But, that’s what it was. That move said loud and clear that Adam Gase thinks more deeply about his players than just X’s and O’s and doesn’t act maliciously.
Williams has never had a Post Season game and Gase knew that. Williams also had a terrible season, but Gase didn’t hold it against him. It would have been very easy to stick the knife into a player who had been such a let down. Gase acted with grace…that is nitro for players having to sacrifice their bodies for the cause.
I all likelihood that move made them respect and like Gase even more.
That’s leadership.
Gase and the Front Office are considering chemistry and team moral. This isn’t to say they are soft. They bench and cut players like there’s no tomorrow. But, their moves are all about winning and the players, even the ones cut and benched, understand it’s not personal.
With Wake on the roster for two more years, he will be available for that year three when Miami should have that nexus of talent and experience.
With Gase, Wake, and Landry–soon as that extension gets signed–leading this team, Miami will be poised for great things.
Cameron Wake will retire a Dolphin, and while I’m not overly sentimental, this move does make me feel very good. Good job Miami. Go Fins!!!
