Miami isn’t staying pat with the roster and is looking to add new players
Miami Dolphins VP Mike Tannenbaum and GM Chris Grier are showing interest in at least two players… and likely more.
This means that they are–and will be in the weeks to come–turning over every rock to build a better roster. Given Miami’s question marks in a few areas, this is a very good thing. Hopefully, they can find a gem on the Offensive Line at some point.
Defensive Tackle Roy Miller and Running Back Rashad Jennings are the two players being reported at this point. But again, I’m sure there are other players of interest that we aren’t hearing about.
The Dolphins’ attempt to acquire a DT is pretty much expected. Running Back though is a bit of a surprise.
Jennings is a big back at 6’1” 230lbs. He’s had a string of fairly successful campaigns over the last 4 years. In 2013 as a Raiders and 2015 as a Giants he had his best outputs with 733 yards, 4.5 YPC, and 6 TD’s, and 833, 4.4YPC, and 3TD’s, respectively. In 2016 his production dropped, and in his 9th season, he would most likely provide depth. But, given that 3 RB’s are guaranteed (Jay Ajayi, Damien Williams, and Kenyan Drake), this interest might be an indication that they are considering keeping 4 RB’s on the active roster.
If this is the case, it would put a tight squeeze in the Wide Receiver competition this training camp.
Miami’s roster isn’t complete and a few players in key spots would help a lot
Miller is a long time vet who has been a solid contributor and is, at this point in his career, a rotational run-stuffer. Last year he tore his Achilles tendon and was cut from the Jacksonville Jaguars in March. But, if he’s healthy, Miller is just the kind of signing the Dolphins need. A lot of talk from sources inside the team has been reported as saying the two rookies DT’s Vincent Taylor and Davon Dochaux aren’t ready yet.
Miami’s interest in Miller could be simply due diligence, or it might hint that there’s truth to the rumors. Not even the pay per head reviews like AcePerHead.com can say for certain.
This decision to continue scouring for help could also be a contributing factor in the Jarvis Landry deal. If this is the case, maybe a new contract for juice isn’t as far of as many think, but this is only conjecture. The next several weeks will reveal what is what–this should be an exciting stretch for fans.
Bottom line, the final roster for the 2017 Season may contain a few players picked up in the proceeding weeks. Some nice gems on the cheap would be exactly what the doctor ordered… at least, I hope so. Go Fins!!!
