Dolphins Lose Saftey Abdul-Quddus For Season

MRI on Abdul-Quddus' neck didn't comeback with good results

The MRI on Abdul-Quddus’ neck didn’t comeback with good results

Both starting Safeties are now on I.R as Abdul-Quddus neck injury ends his season.

Miami Dolphins starting safety Abdul-Quddus is done for the season with an unspecified neck injury.

There’s now way to spin this as good — none.

His loss is compounded by the fact that super star Reshad Jones is also on I.R. with a shoulder injury, and now the Safety spot is only manned by back ups and 3rd stringers.

It’s not to say that Baccari Rambo and Michael Thomas are garbage…they aren’t — especially Rambo. But, they aren’t on par with Quddus or even close to Jones.

This loss weakens not only the depth but talent of the top of the defense.

As a Zone defense, the Safeties play a more crucial role in containing the big plays than in a predominately man scheme. So, this will be critical issue going forward.

Further, neck injuries are tricky and could pose long term issues with Miami’s new star, Quddus.

But, without an accurate diagnosis at this, point the long term issues are unknown.

Quddus was an excellent pick up for Miami and buffered the loss of Jones.

In response to Quddus going to I.R., Miami promoted safety A.J. Hendy from the practice squad to take Quddus’ roster spot.

This give Miami Hendy, Thomas, Aikens and Rambo as the squad going into Week 17 and the Post Season.

I have liked alot of Rambo’s play — ALOT. Thomas also has proven to be a player who can clock solid time in prolonged exposure. They are nearly a lock as the likely starters, but again, the core is razor thin, because while Aikens is an excellent Special Teamer, he’s not a starting Safety.

And with one injury, it’s either him or Hendy moving in the a starters role.

Keep your fingers crossed that we get no whammies at Safety.

The one small silver lining is that Rambo with get a huge spotlight. The best pay per head bookie service knows that he has been a big mid-season pick-up and could also be a good player for Miami long term. He will get his ‘sink or swim’ moment in the bright lights of big time games. As a Free Agent going into 2017, this is the perfect opportunity for him and the Front Office to make their decision on his future in aqua and orange.

I’d have preferred it another way, but it’s next man up.

Thomas and Rambo will now be huge keys for the  remainder of the season. All eyes should be locked on their play. Go Fins!!!

…I’m so damn over the hill happy with this team making the playoffs in Gase’s 1st year …especially after that 1-4 start …that I simply don’t care who wins Sunday

…that is of course with the caveat that we finish without further injuries

…be icing on the cake to go 11-5 and beat the Pats …but max nix …it’s the playoff games that are important now …it would be REAL icing on the cake to actually win one!

…so, after a lot of thought, if Gase rests our starters this sunday, I’d be ok with it …I know that’s a change on my part but so what …putting hatred for the Pats aside, it’s the right decision for the fins future

      Yelp Lemmus!

It would be nice for a win but putting hatred aside for the Pats game would be the right decision. New England has more to lose than the Dolphins if they lose Brady in this game I would think?

Really like how Miami is signing, what seems insignificant, contract extensions with depth players. Some insurance for the player and some stability for the team. Kinda a reward for the hard work for the players that have responded to Gase’s system (way). In season resigning for this team is rare. Not under this regime. We and the player have proven that Miami can win w said players in the line-up.. A win win for all.

It is the little things that add up and collectively evolve into what we have seen this season.

They are not going to make the correct move every time, but I like the process.

I really don’t care what happens this Sunday, win/lose. Just come out healthy, get Maxwell back and lets see what happens. Boy is this what the Pat fans think every year in week 17? So refreshing to support a franchise that I believe gets “it”. Been far far to long!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Hope they sit J-Train Sunday, be a good time to rest the Train in preparation for the Steeler’s playoff game (probable).

If we win Sunday, again I will be watching a Chiefs game, only this time rooting against them.

Seriously, this week the fantasy comes to an end. If we all put our feet back on the ground for just a second I think we’ll all agree that facing the Patriots is nothing like facing the losing Bills or Jets, each with a losing record.

The worst place to suffer injuries coming into a Patriots game facing Tom Brady is a S or any DB position. Oh, and this happens to be THE glaring weakness on this roster. We can all go back to 2013 highlights of Michael Thomas, we can go back to college playing days for Rambo. You can self sooze yourself any way you wish, but the fact is that Brady is licking his chops right now.

The Fins are in, many feel they’ll be a one-and-done WC team. So what? Thats fine with me because its a marked improvement over last year, in fact the last 10 years.

But please, stop with the irrational exuberance regarding this weeks match up against the Pats. Brady can very well throw for 400 yds on this DB squad. And for the life of me, I don’t understand why teams abandon the run against our D.

We can all anticipate Beli pounding LeGarrett Blount early and often, and Brady hitting receivers past our S’s.

    Pats 31
    Fins 17

Look, I can see it getting ugly, but to be fair, it could go the other way IF Miami does a few things. Brady sucks with pressure, one of the worst from the all times, he also has a bad knee. The Pats D isn’t great — good, but not great. Miami is at home and no Gronk. I worry about Joseph blitzing too much or getting predictable. I also worry about the middle zones. I don’t worry about the over the top, unless Miami is getting gashed and then gets sucked inside with PA. Maxwell is coming back — hopefully. If he is there with Howard, McCain and Lippett, I like Miami’s secondary verse the WR’s despite Isa being out….again, if Suh and Phillips …and maybe a surprise of (Mario playing inside) can get Brady on that bad knee moving early and fairly often. I think if they are moving him and slowing the run game, then the Dolphins have a good chance. Gase with Moore can work that meh Pats secondary as well. It will all come down to the pressure and run stops early…that happens, good news is on the way. If not, then you will end up being right.

Maxwell is out…that hurts — alot.

As I put in a later response of yours: ” Rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell, who didn’t practice all week w/ a knee injury, has been downgraded to out. Michael Floyd steps into top-3 WR mix” That missing safety and weaken secondary could be under severe strain” This concerns me …not sure of where he is as a playe now, but at one point he was good..darn good,

Come down Dol Fans we have the talent. Go Dolphins! I keep saying this is a Special Team they find away to Win.

I’m confident that Coach Joseph will Coach to Win! Good Morning Football Show does not believed that the Dolphins Defense will Raddle Tom Brandy. What a Slap in the Face. No respect for our Defense!

Michael Thomas stepping up against the Patriots is nothing new for him he has been there before:
Thomas, who was signed off the 49ers’ practice squad during the week, spent all his practice time on the Dolphins’ scout team squad before getting pressed into duty.

you got it right Gase isn’t anything if he isn’t aggressive!!!

Think I responded to the wrong link Steve! But, “Rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell, who didn’t practice all week w/ a knee injury, has been downgraded to out. Michael Floyd steps into top-3 WR mix” That missing safety and weaken secondary could be under severe strain” this is being reported and I worry a bit about this. I like Rambo and Thomas.. Not sure where Floyd is now as a player….but he was fierce at one point!!

  • Dunner

Next man up philosophy. But, wow we are going through players. Thomas’ opportunity now.

    • admin

Yeah, I think Rambo might go into that standard SS role and Thomas the FS….I think their mirror scheme at S is no longer possible — especially if Aikens or Hendy need to step in.
