Dolphins “O” May Not Be That Bad

The "O" might be better than it has appeared.

The “O” might be better than it has appeared.

Dolphins “O” has been uneven, but several factors could be mitigating factors.

The Miami Dolphins are 0-2, which ‘ain’t’ very encouraging. But, considering the type of teams that the Dolphins played on the road, plus had a chance to win both games and played against 2 of the top 5 defenses in the league…then, the 0-2 record offers a glimmer of hope.

After watching the Patriots play Thursday night against a decent Houston Texans team, I realized that our Dolphins didn’t play “that bad” against the Patriots last Sunday. The Patriots Defense shut out the Texans “O” and made them look like a Division 2 College team. The Patriots did hold Miami to 3 points in the first half; however, the coaching staff made some nice adjustments in the second half, and Ryan Tannehill and our offense were able to put up 21 points after the break.

Another thing that was put into perspective from the Patriots / Texans game was that the Patriots are now 77-0 when leading after halftime when playing at home (This includes playoff games). As good football gambling and the best pay per head fans recall the last time the Patriots lost at home after leading at halftime was on December 24th 2000 against our very own Miami Dolphins — if we could have only made bookends!!!

Miami was success seemed to generate from the use of a lot of “No Huddle” hurry-up offense, and used Tannehill on roll-outs more. Why not just use a no huddle hurry up offense earlier in the game, even through parts of drives?  Adam Gase has spoke of his fear of burning out the defense early. But, maybe a little high risk, high reward move might pay off? In addition, the use of the hurry up offense, if successful, would cause the opposing Defense to tire and maybe generate longer drives with which the defense can rest.

The Dolphins have yet to score in the first quarte this season, so why not mix it up a bit and try something different with the tempo of the offense right from the start? The Cleveland game needs to be a springboard for this “O”, and whole team, to get some confidence along with a victory.  What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about our offense and team so far?

Tanny is what he is, and unfortunately might always be. He has no pocket presence what so ever, never will at this point.

Sitting there…… Nice……WTF ……….. Are You Kidding Me…… Very Nice; that is what it is like watching Tannehill. There are times when I feel that the light may have come on for him, but at this point he is what he is, don’t see any more progress happening.

The coaching has been a disappointment. Both sides. Gase has been average, what is disappointing w Gase is his inability to help the defense. He needs to recognize when he absolutely needs to avoid a 3 and out to give our defense a breather. Start a series with getting 1 first down as the priority while mixing in the run or short screens to keep the clock ticking and the “D” on the sideline. Joseph has been over matched each week. Seems as though he has his team prepared for what he has seen from tape of the opponents game the previous week. Hello, this is the NFL, weekly change is the norm, not the exception. His “D” has held its own considering how often they have been on the field, I believe that has more to do with the players despite the coaching.

A Win is a Win. If they can go to Cincy and some how Win, everyone forgets about this game w a 2-2 record and 10 days off, plus going to be home (Miami) for 7 weeks straight weeks (wow, what a nice stretch to play and be home on a daily/weekly basis).

Not sure how they will win Thursday. If they do, right back in the mix. Mix of what, I’m not sure.

    …sigh …negative nellie here …hate that, I do

…shaking my head …looking for a bag to wear over it …a Brown one, eh

…we won? …oh yeah, by the hair on our chinny chin chin, we did 🙁

    …if you’re celebrating that “win” you’re a true blue dyed-in-the-wool finatic

    …and crazy as a loon …imnsho

…oh yeah, don’t look at the injury roster …if the game didn’t ruin your day, the list of injuries just might get’r done

…yes, the fins may not be that bad …and then again …in our house, against a 3rd string QB and 2nd string CBs, but for a missed field goal, we’d be 0-3 …instead of them

…did Tanny really have almost exactly the same stats as their 3rd stringer and trick-play WR/QB …or were his stats actually worse considering he threw 2 interceptions

…go for it, guys …tell me where I’m wrong …tell me I watched the wrong game

Nah, it was bad, but it was more coaching than players play. Joseph got schooled again and Gase flopped a bit too.
Honestly, coaching is THE biggest issue at this point…both schematically and play calls. You saw the Browns throw looks at both Tanny / Gase and Joseph that “coached up” their team. Gase has been coaching mostly vertical and sometimes down, and Joseph has been straight up schooled two weeks in a row. Talent wise, they are above average, but the coaching is pulling them down to below average. Alot of it is vets mastering two noobs. The good side is the kitchen sink has been thrown at them and now they must coach up these flaws — if they can. I mean Pats used motion and now Browns used counter-action…Joseph better get the idea here. Tanny had the initial bad pick and two or three bad throws, but alot of his pressure and turnovers and lack of production was from head scratchers of plays. Gase does seem to be “getting it” and finding what this offense can do, but Joseph…he has been a real disappointment so far…

    Jimmy!

We cannot play one quarter of football and expect to win games. We need a constant 60 minutes of play from the Dolphins of them doing their job on the field.

That is the key…we haven’t seen that kinda’ ball in Miami for ages!!!!

I only saw the highlights of the game but what is important is that the Dolphins won. A win is A win!

The highlights I saw the Fins were running a two R/B with the Tight Ends in closed formation which is very important.

The team collectively block better and the two R/B formation forces the defense to respect the run while setting up the pass.

For as the offensive line we need to learn to double team to perfection. And the interception must stop!

Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott are both Rookies no interception thrown another reason why I think we are throwing the ball to much!

We are still not run and pass balanced. We have the Running Backs. Nice! highlight Catch of Parker, Landry and very nice run by Ajayi and Williams. A Win is A Win!
