Dolphins Quick Fire & Fill of OC Position

The Dolphins New Year will have a new Offensive Coordinator

After the Miami Dolphins epic win in New England against the Patriots, Flores felt it was best to fire his offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea. Flores quickly found his replacement in 67-year-old Chan Gailey.

Surprising.

When the news hit I was shocked. O’Shea did at least an above-average job considering what he had to work with this season. His offense wasn’t predictable like ‘our friend’ Adam Gase. Also. he did a great job of finding ways to get both Parker and Gesicki to play to their potential. After the improbable win where we not only won the game but dominated in about every statistical part of the game, it’s shocking that anyone would be fired immediately after that type of success.

I’ll give Flores the benefit of the doubt on this one because he’s earned that much. There must be some underlying reason why he felt the team would be better going forward without O’Shea.

Chan Gailey returns to the Dolphins

The Dolphins now have a more experienced play-caller in Chan Gailey.   Gailey’s last season of his 42 year NFL coaching career was in 2016 with the Jets. Unfortunately, there was nothing to get excited about with the 5-11 Jets.

Most notable for the Dolphins move is his 5 years of coaching Ryan Fitzpatrick with the Bills and Jets. Most of the best 2020 pay per head bookie providers are seeing this move as a clear indication that Fitzpatrick will be the starter in 2020. This is fine by me because he clearly was the MVP of this team this season.

Gailey was way ahead of his time

Gailey is one of the first coaches to embrace the spread passing game in the NFL. Hiring makes a lot of sense since the Dolphins’ biggest position of strength is Wide Receiver. It is smart for Miami to play to their strengths. Expect a pass-heavy attack on offense in 2020.

Also, could mean Miami will use their 5th Overall pick on Tua?

With Fitzpatrick as the starting QB next year, Tua would have a whole season to heal from his injury. Tua could be groomed by Fitzpatrick for a full season and then take the reins as the starter in 2021.

Sure this all depends on whether or not Tua even declares for the draft and is healthy. But if he does, I wouldn’t be surprised if Miami took the flier on Tua at #5. The Dolphins still have two other first-round picks they can use on offensive or defensive linemen.

The 2020 offseason sure has kicked off with fireworks.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fan’s thoughts about this latest development in Miami?

Thanks for you insight on my questions. Now… MORE questions. Would the Dolphins enter the FA bids for Derrick Henry ( TN-RB ) and what might be the offer ? What happened to a fast and agile DE being a priority ? Who decided that MLB is now a high priority ? And last by surely not least, if you were the GM would you release Harris ( LB ) due to lack of production and Jones ( SS ) because he just isn’t worth his contract price ? Oh’, and one last observation: based on 2019 production – no LT should be on the squad come June that is on the roster now. Thanks and carry on in good health.

Hey, Fred missed your comments… been behind the 8 ball a bit so far this New Year. I don’t think this team’s formula has spending big money on an RB. This d could use a DE… but Espenesa is the next best after Young and I do think he could be a possibility. MLB is a major priority. We don’t have a good one. In fact, much of the run stop issues revolve around poor LB play. LT is a big must if we are going to run with Fitz (or even if not really). I don’t mind the kid we got from the Texans as a backup swing man. Not a starter though as you said, Fred. Harris is just meh and not good enough to keep. He just doesn’t seem to have it. He’s okay… but I highly doubt he’ll ever be more than that… time to move on and roll the dice. They might keep him through training camp because of his low salary. Jones is gone.

The second picked in the 1st round: No way we should overlook Johnathan Taylor: Two consecutive years in a row the best running back in the nation.

We all had mixed feeling a Tannehill But we cannot deny his performance was better with Jay Ajayi and now with Tennessee he has Derrick Henry in the backfield with him in addition to a team surrounding him.

Just my opinion: We need to stay away from the project players??? Offensive Linemen only two should be in the 1st round and that Georgia Thomas and Iowa Wirfs.

Offensive linemen can be graded by BATON ROUGE, LA (Dec. 19, 2019) — The LSU Tigers offensive line has been selected as the 2019 winner of the Joe Moore Award for the Most Outstanding Offensive Line Unit in College Football. Award Criteria and Selection Process

The Joe Moore Award voting committee judges solely on six criteria: toughness, effort, teamwork, consistency, technique and finishing. Past recipients of the Joe Moore Award include the offensive lines of the University of Alabama (2015), the University of Iowa (2016), the University of Notre Dame (2017), and the University of Oklahoma (2018).

USA Today dated 25 June 2019 The deep group of standout offensive linemen has multiple contenders for the top spot that goes to Georgia’s Andrew Thomas, a returning All-America selection from 2018. It’s a pretty unsurprising group in terms of teams and conferences represented: Georgia, Wisconsin, Stanford, the Big Ten and the SEC.

    1. Andrew Thomas, Georgia (Jr.)

On the honest note you cannot overlooked Oregon’s offensive line, Ohio State, Wisconsin etc. They are up and down the draft board.

Watched Taylor… he impressed me. But, I wouldn’t take him. We need trenches first. This Oline would waste a good RB. I think RB next year except for a late-round stab at one this year. Just my take. I do like Taylor though he has wonderful movement, speed, burst and vision. Maybe with the 3rd first, I could see it.

    Happy New Year!

Admin! The CAT is out of the bag about Isaiah Simmons Clemson. I was hoping that he stayed under the radar, just my on opinion Simmons should be the Dolphins number one picked:

    BECAUSE:

“Simmons is one of the most versatile athletes to play the linebacker position. He’s an exceptional athlete with unique length and makes plays at all three levels, with terrific rush ability, blitz timing, cover skill and tackling range. He’s a modern-day linebacker with special match-up skills. For as good of a football player as he is, he’s a better person and will represent the Butkus Award with class,” a release confirming the news said.

The Kansas native has 93 tackles, seven sacks, a fumble and two interceptions on the season.

Simmons beat out Cal’s Evan Weaver, Wisconsin’s Zach Baun, Texas Tech’s Jordyn Brooks and Penn State’s Micah Parsons for the award.

LSU linebacker and top 10 pick Devin White won the trophy last year. By the way White was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round with the fifth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

    • admin

Yeah, he is a good one. I like Espenesa as well… but Simmons fill a bigger need. Although Okudah might be the better value at #5… but maybe Simmons too.

    Hello

In reference to Nate Stanley he is a 5th year senior who played well for the Hawk eye’s. Nate is not what the Dolphins need. We already have QB in Josh Rosen who holds on to the ball too long.

    Mark Emmert Hawk Central
    Published 7:31 PM EDT Oct 5, 2019
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Iowa quarterback Nate Stanley spent almost as much time on his back as he did on his feet Saturday.

The Michigan defense blitzed him relentlessly because the Iowa offensive line did little to stop them. Stanley didn’t help his cause by hanging on to the ball too long at times, waiting for open receivers that never materialized. Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz was slow to adjust and continued to call plays that were slow to develop.

It added up to eight Wolverine sacks for minus-65 yards. Iowa’s entire rushing output was 66 yards.

This was a dispiriting day for the Hawkeye offense. And it stung the entire group.

No. 18 Michigan didn’t score a point for the final 53 minutes and 33 seconds at sold-out Michigan Stadium. And still won the game 10-3.

I think this “We already have QB in Josh Rosen who holds on to the ball too long.” is a product of his fortunes with offenses. Rosen had a different OC and scheme every year in college and in the NFL he’s had 4 offenses and 5 ocs! Hard to get comfortable with that type of instability.

      • Steve

Yeah I can agree too many different program for Rosen!

What will save Rosen in the NFL is to get rid of the ball, Scramble for 1st downs. Rosen was drafted pretty high for arm talent etc. these are his strong points.

    Must see game:

Oregon and Wisconsin will kick off today at 2:pm roughly. From Amherst to Pasadena, Badgers’ Tyler Biadasz, Garrett Groshek share special journey

From Amherst to Pasadena, Badgers’ Tyler Biadasz, Garrett Groshek share …
Colten Bartholomew | Wisconsin State Journal

Wednesday’s Rose Bowl vs. Oregon might be the final game together for the redshirt juniors from central Wisconsin.

Biadasz is one of the top-rated interior linemen eligible for the NFL draft and is a projected first- or second-round pick. He hasn’t announced a decision yet, but he did submit his name to the NFL’s College Advisory Committee for a second consecutive year.

For most Dolphins Fans who loved Ohio State J.K. Dobbins performance against Clemson. He announced Monday night that he would forego his senior season to enter the NFL draft.

Now if you love Dobbins then today you will really love Johnathan Taylor:

A lot of attention will be on Doak Walker Award winner Jonathan Taylor (above), who is likely playing in his final game for UW. His 1,909 yards were second in the FBS this year, and he has a chance to end his college career on a high note. Before the Pac-12 title game against Utah, Oregon played just one team (Auburn) whose rushing offense finished in the top 50 in the FBS.
Receiver Quintez Cephus and quarterback Jack Coan continued to show a strong connection against Ohio State, and Cephus is a tough matchup for an Oregon secondary that 222.8 yards per game in the air (58th in FBS). UW will look to maintain variety in its offense with jet sweeps, end arounds and Coan’s willingness to keep the ball on read options.

Linebacker Troy Dye led the Ducks with 75 total tackles, 9½ of which were for loss. Kayvon Thibodeaux is the bright spot up front for the Ducks with 14 tackles for loss including nine sacks. Coan will need to be smart with the ball against Oregon’s secondary, which has 19 interceptions.

Led by senior quarterback Justin Herbert (above), the Ducks have one of the best passing attacks in the country. Oregon’s team passing efficiency rating of 160.37 is 13th in the FBS. Herbert threw for 32 touchdowns to just five interceptions, and used a bevy of receiving threats to do it.

Four Oregon receivers have at least 25 catches, 400 yards and three touchdowns this season. Junior Johnny Johnson III leads the group with 55 catches and 818 yards, and his seven touchdowns are tied with Jaylon Reed (50 catches, 465 yards) for the team lead. However, the Ducks maintain balance offensively with a solid running game — an average Oregon game has 37 rushes and 33 passes.

CJ Verdell is Oregon’s top rusher with 1,171 yards this season, while Travis Dye has added 655. Cyrus Habibi-Likio has been the short-yardage back for Oregon, and he’s scored a team-best 10 touchdowns. The Badgers will need to limit the Ducks’ run game and generate pass rush against a strong offensive line.

Outside linebacker Zack Baun, who has been stacking up All-American honors this season, will have one of his top challenges to date with Penei Sewell, Oregon’s Outland Trophy-winning tackle. After playing well against Minnesota, the Badgers’ secondary struggled against the Buckeyes when quarterback Justin Fields extended plays with scrambles. Herbert has that ability as well, so the game may swing on how those defensive backs hold up on long plays.

    Hello Admin

Very nice Article Bro! Coach Flores has sent a pretty clear message to the rest of the NFL
and that message is you best come to play against the Dolphins. Most sports commentators had
to eat crow all week behind Sunday’s performance by the Dolphins defeating the Patriots.

    To: Jimmy and Michael
Any idea if the Dolphins are looking at Nate Stanley (QB) from Iowa ? He seems to have the stats and the prototype physique I would prefer in a drafted QB. As for who excelled in the NE game, I thought that Van Ginkel (LB) played an outstanding game and resembled “Kiko” in output (specifically against the running game.) Another question that I have is why the Dolphins would make CB a 1st round preference ? It seems to me that a high-production RB, maybe in the second round, might be in order ? I will leave it up to smarter heads than mine to decide what order we get new draftees in, but I believe that LT, C, RG, and RB have to be a priority ? Oh’ well..now my head hurts from all this contemplation.

    • admin

Happy New Year, sir!! As for CB, it and QB, LT, and elite pass rusher are the hardest to find. This is a pass happy league. If the elite QB, DE, LT are off the board and you must pick, CB is the best value. In this draft WR and CB would be the last ‘elite’ talents left with Thomas, Young and Burrows off the board. Maybe another LT is better… this is just from the little I’ve seen of Thomas and read. Honestly, even as a former RB, I’d never take an RB in the Top 10 unless it was Barry level. None of these players are. I’d rather take a second-tier LT than a RB. RBs for the most part are a product of the OL and get hurt a lot. Look at the Raiders kid. Excellent RB, but already hurt. DE Espenesa is another guy I like. I could see them go for him or the LB/ S… can’t seem to rember his name. Howard has serious injury questions and this D is based on Coverage giving the pressure time to get there. Needham is okay… we need CB help going forward. I expect them to take one at some point in the 1st 3 rounds. Certainly OL is key… RB’s can be found all over the place and now we will likely run a spread scheme too… pass catching RB will be key. But again we can find them later.
