Dolphins Quick Fire & Fill of OC Position

The Dolphins New Year will have a new Offensive Coordinator

After the Miami Dolphins epic win in New England against the Patriots, Flores felt it was best to fire his offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea. Flores quickly found his replacement in 67-year-old Chan Gailey.

Surprising.

When the news hit I was shocked. O’Shea did at least an above-average job considering what he had to work with this season. His offense wasn’t predictable like ‘our friend’ Adam Gase. Also. he did a great job of finding ways to get both Parker and Gesicki to play to their potential. After the improbable win where we not only won the game but dominated in about every statistical part of the game, it’s shocking that anyone would be fired immediately after that type of success.

I’ll give Flores the benefit of the doubt on this one because he’s earned that much. There must be some underlying reason why he felt the team would be better going forward without O’Shea.

Chan Gailey returns to the Dolphins

The Dolphins now have a more experienced play-caller in Chan Gailey.   Gailey’s last season of his 42 year NFL coaching career was in 2016 with the Jets. Unfortunately, there was nothing to get excited about with the 5-11 Jets.

Most notable for the Dolphins move is his 5 years of coaching Ryan Fitzpatrick with the Bills and Jets. Most of the best 2020 pay per head bookie providers are seeing this move as a clear indication that Fitzpatrick will be the starter in 2020. This is fine by me because he clearly was the MVP of this team this season.

Gailey was way ahead of his time

Gailey is one of the first coaches to embrace the spread passing game in the NFL. Hiring makes a lot of sense since the Dolphins’ biggest position of strength is Wide Receiver. It is smart for Miami to play to their strengths. Expect a pass-heavy attack on offense in 2020.

Also, could mean Miami will use their 5th Overall pick on Tua?

With Fitzpatrick as the starting QB next year, Tua would have a whole season to heal from his injury. Tua could be groomed by Fitzpatrick for a full season and then take the reins as the starter in 2021.

Sure this all depends on whether or not Tua even declares for the draft and is healthy. But if he does, I wouldn’t be surprised if Miami took the flier on Tua at #5. The Dolphins still have two other first-round picks they can use on offensive or defensive linemen.

The 2020 offseason sure has kicked off with fireworks.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fan’s thoughts about this latest development in Miami?
