The other day the Dolphins lost one of their special teams aces for the past 4 seasons in Jason Trusnik to the Carolina Panthers. This was a transaction that quietly went on the radar, but Trusnik added value to the Dolphins’ special teams and he was even a very serviceable Linebacker replacement this past season when the Dolphins were decimated by injury. He was a hard working player and one of those type of players that every team can use on their roster and in their locker room. Luckily Miami did not waste any time and just signed another special teams ace in Spencer Paysinger from the New York Giants.
Spencer Paysinger (first of all what a name!) was a top member of the Giants’ special teams unit, so it was a necessary move after just losing Trusnik. In addition Paysinger has 14 career starts at outside linebacker so he can at least give the Dolphins depth at that position, and most football gambling fans would even say that he is a slight improvement over Trusnik. Sure this is small roster maneuver, but there is never an insignificant player transaction when speaking about the sport of football, and fielding the most competitive roster a team can possibly field.
Once again this transaction demonstrates that the organization is on the same page and knows what they need. They lost a key member of their special teams unit and depth chart on defense, and they immediately targeted and signed a player that can fill the void and possibly even be better. Every little move counts, because at the end of the day your only as strong as your weakest link, and in a sport that has a lot of injuries it is very important to have quality depth in the lineup, that can step in and play well. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think about this latest player transaction by your beloved phins?
