Dolphins Taking A Good Look at 13 CB’s.
The 2016 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away, and the Dolphins headquarters have been extra busy using their league allotted scheduled visits on potential draft prospects. One position that the Dolphins have focused on more than others in terms of player visits is the Corner Back position. The Dolphins have met with or are scheduled to meet with 13 corner backs.
William Jackson III University of Houston
Eli Apple Ohio State
Xavien Howard Baylor
James Bradberry Samford
Rashard Robinson LSU
Cre’ Von LeBlanc FAU
Ryan Smith North Carolina Central
Kevon Seymour USC
Traveze Calhoun Mississippi State
Eric Murray Minnesota
Tavon Young Temple
Artie Burns Miami
Tracy Howard Miami
The first thing that jumps out about this list is that Vernon Hargreaves from Florida is not one of them. He is considered by many to be the best cover corner in the draft. However, Miami must not feel the same, or they do not believe he will be available when they are on the clock at number 13. The other name that is surprisingly not on this list is Mackensie Alexander from Clemson. When the draft process began, many sports pay per head bookie fans were betting that Alexander would be the pick for Miami at #13. However, a hamstring injury kept Alexander from working out at the combine, and he has slowly been dropping on many draft pundit’s lists.
We have spoken about Eli Apple and William Jackson III before, and I think both players would be a good selection in the first round. Both players are at least 6 feet tall, and are very fast, and would be a good compliment with Byron Maxwell on the other side. I feel both players would be a better value a bit later in the first round, so it is possible that Miami could trade back a few positions, and still select one of these two high upside players.
Dolphins taking a good look at Xavien Howard.
The other big name on this list that I really like is Xavien Howard. He is a big bodied CB at 6’0”, 200 pounds like Apple and Jackson, but just not as fast. Many scouts were not expecting Howard to declare for the draft, but when he did and they took a closer look at his game tape, many scouts were pleasantly surprised.
In 2015 as a Junior Howard had 42 tackles, 5 interceptions and 10 passes defended. In 2014 as a Sophomore, he had 51 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 13 passes defended. Howard clearly has displayed ball hawking abilities, and has a lot of upside with the right coaching, Since Vance Joseph specializes in CB’s this could be a great pick in the second round, if Miami doesn’t go CB in the first round, or if we trade back and pick up an extra second round pick. Is it possible Miami could double down on CB and get 2 of the 3 players (Apple, Jackson, and Howard). What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about the list of CB’s that Miami has a scheduled interest in?
