Dress Rehearsal: Getting the run game in order
This Saturday at 7pm eastern the Miami Dolphins host the Dallas Cowboys for their third and crucial Preseason game. The third game is considered as the dress rehearsal for the regular season, where the starters play into the second half of the game. Nobody is going to be crowned a Super Bowl Champ after this game, but sports gambling fans will get to see a more realistic view of what their team is about.
During the first two games the Dolphins have proved that they can move the ball on offense by passing the ball, which is a good thing. However, they have also proved after two games that they can not run the ball, which is a bad thing. Against Dallas, the offense needs to make the running game a top priority. Last game they only tried to run the ball 9 times in the first half. This Saturday, regardless if they can run or not, they need to at least try to run it 12-15 times in the first half. Not to make any excuses, but it is hard for a running back to get into the rhythm of the game if they are barely touching the ball. The running game is never going to be effective, if the coaching staff does not incorporate it into their game plan.
On the defensive side of the ball, the defenders need to start wrapping up ball carriers and tackling them to the ground. The fact is that the Dolphins start off the season against two division rivals, so they need to come out of the gate strong. Having problems tackling is not a good sign when entering a new season. This issue needs to be solved, and the defenders need to take pride in their tackling, and stop embarrassing themselves with alligator arm tackles.
Lastly, time is running down for the bubble players on the roster, and this game and the last game next Thursday against the St Louis Rams will be their last chance to make a final impression on the coaching staff. Some players that have a lot riding on these last 2 games are Damian Williams, Damien Williams, Anthony Johnson, Chris McCain, Armon Binns, Mike Gillislee, and Jalil Brown.
The Dolphins are actually favored in the game for the first time this preseason, by -3 ½. Sports gambling fans should only be betting on this game, so they can make a meaningless preseason game more enjoyable and entertaining.
