Entering his Prime

The Dolphins took a flyer in the fifth round of the 2010 draft and selected Safety Reshad Jones from the University of Georgia. He immediately made his presence felt, and played in 13 games, and added some impact plays with 1 sack, 1 interception, and 1 fumble recovery. In 2011 he was the Dolphins’ full-time starting safety and continued to make plays. In 2012 he had his best season as a pro with 94 tackles, 1 sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries, and 4 interceptions. After that season, he renegotiated his rookie contract and the Phins rewarded him with a 4 year $29.285 million dollar extension with $15 million guaranteed.

Jones followed up his new contract with another productive season in 2013 where he had 107 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 interception. For the 2014 season, he missed the first 4 games of the season because he was forced to serve a suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Jones used that suspension as motivation last season and played extremely well in the phins remaining 12 games. He finished his shortened season with 80 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 3 interceptions.

Jones is now entering his 6th season in the league, and most of the pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com would say that he has been consistently good throughout his career. Jones has specifically come out and said he believes he is one of the best safeties in the league, however, there are players such as Earl Thomas, Jairus Byrd, Eric Weddle, Devin McCourty, Kam Chancellor, and Eric Reid that would say otherwise.

It is hard to label Jones as a breakout player because he has been playing consistently well for the last 5 years, but with another year of experience under his belt, and getting the chance to pair with his preferred partner in crime Louis Delmas, Jones has the chance to put up a Pro Bowl type season. Last year the Pro Bowl free safeties were Tashaun Gipson, Glover Quin, Earl Thomas, and Eric Weddle. Gipson had an incredible 6 interceptions in only 11 games, Quin led the bunch with 7 interceptions, Thomas was the most well-rounded player of the group with 97 tackles, 3 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception, and Weddle led the bunch in tackles with 114, and was able to cause 3 turnovers. Each of these players was well deserved of the Pro Bowl, but some fans would argue that Jones is right on their heels, and if he did not get suspended he would have had 4 more games to pad his already solid statistics.

Jones is only 27 years old and he is entering the prime of his career. He has proved throughout his career that he is a ball hawk scouring the back end of the defense for Miami. I personally have been a big fan of Jones since we have drafted him, and he is the playmaking free safety that we have always longed for. With a full 16 games this year, Jones has the skill and the talent to put up Pro Bowl numbers, and back up his earlier words of being one of the best safeties in football. Doe the rest of the Miami Dolphin fans think that Jones can put up a Pro Bowl type season in 2015?

When he came back last year after the 4 game suspension he brought the lumber…he impacted the line of scrimmage big time. Still not sure about his coverage, but in the box he is a beast. Really enjoyed his play last season.

Yeah I agree he is a beast in the box, and I truly think he could have a Pro Bowl type year this season

Always been a big Jones fan. If Taylor steps up this year and Delmas stays healthy then he could have a huge year
