Phins have a long climb to the impossible, but Saints is an easy first step
The Miami Dolphins have backed themselves into a corner and their playoff odds are microscopic. With the margin for error is gone, every game from here on out will be played on the razor’s edge between desperation and delusion. But if there is one thing a struggling team can still count on, it’s this: sometimes the schedule throws you a bone. And this week, that bone comes wrapped in black and gold.
Miami has plenty of issues, Saints are broken
Make no mistake — this Dolphins team is flawed.
The offense hasn’t found its identity. Injuries have piled up across the roster. The defense has carried more than its fair share of the weight after a horrific start yet still finds itself stretched thin. Miami is not in position to overlook anyone… but the New Orleans Saints are the exception.
This Saints team isn’t just bad — they’re directionless. Their offense is one of the least explosive groups in the league, their quarterback play is unstable, and their discipline has collapsed into penalties and turnovers at the worst times. Defensively, they’re no longer the hard-nosed, suffocating unit of years past. They give up explosive plays, can’t stop the run consistently, and fold in late-game situations.
Nearly everything about this matchup points in Miami’s favor.

Over the last 3 weeks, the Dolphins have the advantage on offense, the Saints on defense. The points differential on offense and defense combined gives Miami +9 pts combined. Considering they are home as well, you can bet with the best pay per head that the Dolphins should take this game unless they totally wet the bed.
Get Right or Go Home… for Good McDaniel
For the Dolphins, this is the perfect “keep the ball rolling” opportunity. A chance to rebuild confidence, recalibrate the offense, and stack a win that keeps their miracle-road alive just a little longer. The Saints don’t have the firepower to exploit Miami’s weaknesses, and they don’t have the structure to punish mistakes.
If there is such a thing as an “easy step” in the NFL, this is it.
Of course, none of this changes the reality: the climb ahead is steep, bordering on impossible. Miami will need help from half the conference, plus a miracle or two, just to stay mathematically relevant. But you can’t complete a climb without taking the first step — and the Saints are the softest step the Dolphins could have asked for.
Beat the Saints. Look competent doing it. And give this fanbase at least one more week of belief.
Go Phins!!!
