For Many Phins Fans, Being Patient Isn’t Easy
All Phins Fans are starved for success, for many who haven’t seen Miami succeed, patience isn’t easy
Growing up in the 80’s and being a Phins fan meant being part of a select club of the elite NFL teams. Don Shula, Dan Marino, the Perfect Season, and five Super Bowl appearances in 25 years were enough to make any season feel like it could be special. And if it wasn’t, there was enough goodwill to be patient.
It felt good to be a Dolphins fan; they were a storied, respected, and honored team.
Then 1993 came and the downward spiral began.
1993 began the Dolphins fall
Coming off a defeat at home by the Bills in the AFC Championship where Buffalo ran the ball down the Phins throat, Dan Marino ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 5 of 1993. Marino was such a warrior he got the pass off despite the tear. I still remember the shock and horror of seeing him down with everyone gathering around.
Scott Mitchell took over and threw a pick 6 on his first pass. He improved but went down for the count as well a few weeks later. Ultimately, Steve DeBerg led the Dolphins to five straight losses to end the season and they missed out on the playoffs. The 93′ team was a darn good team, but a season of promise ended in disaster. There was the unbelievable Thanksgiving Day win in the snow and the emergence of running back Terry Kirby that eased the pain of an ugly season.
1994 was the last good ride for Miami
The whole 1994 offseason was one of worry about whether Dan Marino would ever be the same again. Also, Joe Robbie sold the team to Wayne Huizenga.
One era closed, and a new one opened.
Marino showed his greatness with his special comeback game in the opener against the Pats and had the fake spike against the Jets. But Kirby went down for the season in Week 4 leaving Marino to carry the load alone. They beat the Joe Montana led Chiefs in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. A week later the Phins were a makeable kick from going back to the AFC Championship.
I remember feeling great as the Dolphins went into Half Time of that Charger game with a sizable lead. I jumped around celebrating in front of my friends who were Jets fans. My wooden Dolphins statue on the T.V. fell from my prancing around and snapped into pieces. I could feel the black clouds gather overhead.
As Stovonavich’s missed the 48-yard field goal after Marino’s unbelievable drive with half a minute remaining in the 2nd Half, all I could think was what if I didn’t break the statue?! It’s been near twenty-five years and you can bet with the pay per head sportsbook services those dark clouds are still there.
Wide right, laces out has been the road map for the Phins these last twenty-five seasons
So what’s the point of this trip down memory lane?
Jimmy Bourbon wrote an article the other day and it ended up making plenty of sparks. Some sadly agreed or respectfully disagreed while others were bitterly indignant. It was a hot button take on Rosen and this regime and hit the sore spot for all Phins Fans.
The whole fan base is ravenous for some good times–and a bit ornery.
Fans like Jimmy, who are in their early 30’s or younger, have only known a terrible football experience… but they are still here. These young fans are desperate to know what good times taste like. They don’t even have a clue of what they missing. Then there are the old fans like me who saw Marino from the beginning and had good times, just not great ones. We have ever been the bride’s maid and not the bride. Then there are the oldest fans who were a part of the Glory Years of the early 70’s. They are desperate to feel that joy again and their ride into ‘no man’s land’ has been the longest. And for them, time is getting short and they at least just want to see the Dolphins be respectable again.
Infighting between a fanbase is the last stage of a dysfunctional team. We don’t control what happens on the field, but we can control that. Whatever the viewpoint or age, all Phins Fans are in the same boat. Let’s remember while we might paddle differently, we all want to go in the same direction. Go Phins!!!

Hello Dolphins Fans and Admin
Infighting between a fanbase is the last stage of a dysfunctional team. I think constructive infighting is a necessity to the success of the Dolphins future.

Who were the quarterbacks drafted in 2018?
Ranking the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2018 NFL draft
Sam Darnold, USC. 6-foot-3 3/8, 221 pounds. …
Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma. 6-0 3/4, 216 pounds. ….
Josh Allen, Wyoming. 6-4 7/8, 237 pounds.
Lamar Jackson, Louisville. 6-2 1/4, 216 pounds. …
Josh Rosen, UCLA. 6-4, 226 pounds. …
Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State. 6-4 1/8, 229 pounds. …
Luke Falk, Washington State. …
Mike White, Western Kentucky.
They did a great job on it… nailed it for the most part.
I just hate too see the Jets get Young. It’s all over the place this year… one minute I’m think top pick… now, it could be 5-10. We have the 4th right now. Soooo many bad teams. Funny most of them spent to the hilt to win. Shows thats the Phins are doing alight with a stripped down team… hope they end the last 8 games strong.

Looking at the rest of the Dolphins scheduled there are five terrible teams the dolphins can beat. Finishing the season with 6 wins as you have requested most of this season.
Yes: One of these teams will draft Chase Young.
Cincinnati Bengals: 0-7
New York Jets: 1-7
Miami Dolphins: 1-7
Atlanta Falcons” 1-7
Washington Redskins: 1-7
The real questioned is do the dolphins want the number one picked? If Yes! Don’t win anymore games this season. The Cincinnati Bengal are the strongest team achieving the number one picked. There is no one left on there schedule who they can possibly beat.

I’m now of two minds since I embraced the tank. I want Young or Burrow… But, if they get 6 wins, I’ll be very impressed with Flores. Don’t think 6 though… they needed to take the Skins for that. But, we’ll see. I still want to trade back with one of these three picks to get more for the future. Steelers and Texans are killing the value though. The Phins top pick might be the best value to trade back. if they have targeted a later QB, then maybe. I’m all discombobulated at this point.
Admin I’m glad you mentioned trading back.
The Fins need a QB and not just any QB.
We will do well with Tua or Burrow’s. After the Jets win we are ranked number 4 in this 2020 draft. We don’t have a shot at either one at picked # 4. Tampa Bay will most likely draft Jalen Hurst.
Now: Jalen Hurst as a Dolphin + Johnathan Taylor + AJ Dillon or Cam Akers, Florida State
in the back field would mean playoff 2020 Yawl. Along with a line and defense.
Jalen Hurst: I’ve mentioned for the last two seasons that he gets no respect.
Against Kansas he is blamed for the the rest of the team sucking that game: When he/ Hurst 19 of 26 passes for 395 yards and rush for 96 yards and 4TD’s
Against UCLA: Hurts completed 15 of 20 passes for 289 yards and three or 4 touchdowns and ran 14 times for 150 yards and a score.
Passed for: 5626 yards and 48 TD’s with Alabama and with Oklahoma 2,469 passing yards and 21 TD’s
Rushed fro 2469 yards and 21 TD’s(rushed 801 yards with Oklahoma and 1,975 yards with Alabama)
We have watch two decades of Dolphins QB’s passing attacked get shut down and these Dolphins QB lacked any serious rushing attack at all themselves.
Patients:
1st Round players must not be a reached or a 1st year questioned?
Chase Young
Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa, Jr.
Johnathan Taylor RB
Can wins us three QB in this draft:
He may slide to the second round:
1. Jalen Hurst over 8,095 passing yards, 69TD’s and over rushing 2777 yards and 36TD with Bama and the Sooners.
Maybe 4th to 6th rounder:
2. Anthony Gordon: Washington state ( pass for 3387 and 32 TD’s)
City College of San Francisco 3,864 passing yards and 37 touchdowns, about 38 yards rushing.
Maybe 7th rounder to un drafted: leads the PAC 12 South
3. Tyler Huntley Utah 2016 to 2019 current- passed for 6,321 yards and 38 TD’s, and rushed for 1,091 yards and 15 TD’s.
Wirfs that good?
