Arian Foster Is A Dolphin

A very team friendly deal has Foster a Dolphins running back.

Arian Foster is a Miami Dolphins running back with a very team friendly deal.

In  a fair  bit of irony, Foster now runs for the team that knocked him out last year.

29-year old Arian Foster is now a Miami Dolphins running back.

The stable of backs just expanded, adding much needed talent and depth to a unit that had some question marks attached to the squad.

The new Dolphin signed a cap friendly deal that has a sticker tag price of $1.5 million dollars as the base.

Now, the bulk of the contract lies in incentives, which is always a win-win for a team. With near $2 million dollars on the table should the former Pro-Bowl player perform, he has all the incentive in the world to make sure that he has a “good” year for his new team.

Foster could be cut with very little impact as the Dolphins are $15 million under the cap.

With a workout scheduled on Friday with the Detroit Lions, Miami had pressure to make a decision before the decision was taken out of their hands. With this quick move, they eliminated both the chances of losing Foster and the Detroit Lions sweetening the pot and forcing the Dolphins to have to match the offer.

With camp less than two weeks away, Miami has strengthened a weakness and given themselves an opportunity of making a low risk, high reward move in a position that coach Adam Gase highly values. Extra value also lies in the fact that this move comes with zero long-term commitment. Given that the 2017 Draft is expected to have loads of talent at the Running Back position, it helps the team building side of the Dolphins operation by not committing a player beyond this season.

In the end, if Foster doesn’t pan out, very little is lost. But, if he does, then the best sportsbooks may have to adjust their odds on Miami’s success in 2016. When you calculate production and pay, it will be interesting to see who wins out in the team swap of running back between the Texans and the Dolphins. Go Fins!!!
