Lamar Miller did a great job last year for the Dolphins at running back, but in this day and age in the NFL, a team needs two good runners. Williams flashed some skills last year, but not enough to make the organization feel comfortable that they found their second running back. Miami will most likely look to the draft or free-agency for another starting-caliber running back.
One running back whose name has been floating around the Dolphins facilities is Frank Gore from the San Francisco 49ers. He has been in the league for 10 years, which is running back years means he probably only has one or two more seasons left in the tank. However, in his last 4 seasons, he has not missed a game and in each season he has been able to run for over 1,000 yards.
The interesting thing for the Dolphins is that he has a home in South Florida and trains there in the off-season, and even has trained with Lamar Miller. He is also a former Hurricane, so the Miami Dolphins has a few intangibles that would cause Gore to want to finish out his stellar career with them.
Most of the best pay per head reviews would agree that Gore is not going to provide a long term one-two punch for the Dolphins, however, even though he has been in the league for 10 years he still has been a productive runner. He is known as a workout warrior so if any running back at the age of 31 still has anything left in the tank it would be someone like Gore.
If the Dolphins can sign Gore to a relatively cheap one or two year contract, then Miami should strongly consider signing the homegrown talent. Obviously, if the price is not right, then the Phins would be better off drafting a running back this year, especially since this is a deep draft for the running back position. What does the rest of Phins news fans think about taking a chance on Gore?
