The Dolphins are now 1-2 and their season is quickly slipping away. If the Dolphins can not find a way to turn this ship around fast, then Philbin will most likely be gone, with Tannehill most likely benched and the Dolphins organization searching for yet another QB and coach to help them rebuild. It is very sad because there is some definite talent on this team, however there is too much sloppiness to overcome. The Dolphins are leading the league with the highest paid group of receivers and in drop passes, and the defense is still having problems with the basics, such as tackling.
If the coaching staff and the players can not figure out how to correct these basic football skills, then this team looks doomed for another mediocre season, where they miss the playoffs, and are not bad enough to warrant a top pick in the upcoming draft. They just finished another dismal game where they got embarrassed by an 0-2 team at home, that had multiple starters sidelined with injuries. The defense played well for most of the game, however their run defense wore down and got shredded by a second string running back for 132 yards and could not cover McKnight coming out of the flat in the passing game. The offense came out flat once again, and continued to allow pressure on Tannehill. In addition Tannehill and his receivers appear to be on two different play books, because there were multiple miss-communications. All sports betting software like Ace Per Head fans know that Tannehill has issues with his deep ball, but now it appears he has problems throwing quick slant passes and in the flat passes. I have always been a big supporter of Tannehill, however so far this season he has regressed and if he can’t figure it out soon, then it’s time to put Matt Moore in, and start scouting QB’s to draft for the upcoming 2015 draft.
Three positive things were that youngsters Lamar Miller, Jelani Jenkins, and Jarvis Landry all played well. Miller had multiple runs where he exhibited his quick burst, and on only 15 carries he was able to rush for 108 yards with a 7.2 yards per carry average. Since Jenkins has come in off the bench, he has been very active at the linebacker spot, and lead the team with 15 tackles, 11 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks, 1 tackle for a loss and 2 QB hits. He has really stepped up, and looks like he has a promising young career ahead of him. Landry made a couple of clutch first down catches, and had a stellar kick return average of 34.8 yards, helped by his 74 yard return that he nearly took to the house. All three youngsters seem to get better when they get more opportunities in the game.
The Dolphins need to get back on track soon before this season becomes a lost cause. Either a trip to London against the win less Raiders will help do the trick, or it will be the beginning of the end for this team. The Phins are 1-2, and now with their backs against the wall they need to show some heart and pride and turn this season around. There are lots of playoff teams from last season that are also 1-2 such as the Packers, Saints, 49ers, Colts and Chiefs, so it is not full-fledge panic mode yet, unless they lose to Oakland.
