Goldfinger

The state of Florida has a lot of quality young homegrown talented football players in high school. Florida also has a few of the top college football programs in the nation that recruit some of the best players around the country, such as Florida State, Miami U, and Florida. This means that the Miami Dolphins have a rare opportunity to get a closer look at some of the best young talents in college football by just looking in their own backyard. In this upcoming draft, the Dolphins may want to take a close look at a few local players. One of those players would be defensive tackle Eddie Goldman from Florida State.

Goldman is a big boy at 6’4” 313 pounds, who many of the best pay per head reviews feel was the best defensive lineman for the Seminoles last season. He has all the tools to be a very productive defensive tackle in the NFL; he is big, strong, quick and has enough speed to even get pressure on the QB. In 2014 he had 35 tackles, 8 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble.

Goldman would be a solid pick for Miami, however, a lot will depend on free-agency, such as if they actually try to make a push for Suh. Even if Miami does not go after Suh, this free-agency still has some quality defensive tackles available such as B.J. Raji, and Dan Williams. If the Phins happen to sign one of these players then there is a high probability that they will not be interested in Goldman.

In addition, the one defensive tackle that has been climbing up the charts and who sources tell me Philbin has developed a man crush for is Danny Shelton from Washington. The problem is that Shelton played and looked so good in the Senior Bowl game that he may now be a top 10 draft pick, which means Miami will not even get the chance to draft him. If he happens to slide, then most sports gambling fans would wager that Miami will definitely select Shelton over Goldman if they do decide to draft a DT with their first pick.

In mock drafts, Goldman’s draft position has greatly varied from being a mid-first-round pick to being a second-round pick. Miami has other needs, so I feel that if Miami does draft Goldman then they can not use their first-round pick on him. I would be much more comfortable with the Phins selecting him in the second round if he was still available because a player that can go in either the first or second does not sound like a player that should be drafted as the 14th player in the entire draft. What does the rest of Phins news fans feel about drafting Goldman, and when to draft him?
