Gone Fishing
As bad as the Dolphins have played this season, there is one thing that has bothered me the entire season that actually doesn’t have anything to do with the actual team and coaches. The format of the Dolphins schedule has really bothered me. The man to blame is Steven Ross, and his need to upgrade the stadium. The Dolphins should have just put up a Gone Fishing Sign on their stadium for the first half of the year, because they have only played at home twice so far this season.
I understand that it is important to have a comfortable stadium that will help draw fans to the games. This renovation was done with the idea of hoping to attract more Super Bowls to be played at the stadium so the owner could make more money. However, the only way to actually fill the seats for Miami Dolphins home games is to have a product that is worth wild to see, and that product is a team that wins and is competitively involved in the playoff hunt. Most football betting software providers would agree that the Dolphins are not one of those teams.
As a result of the renovations to the Dolphins stadium, the Dolphins have had an extremely lopsided schedule that has caused them to play most of this year on the road. It does not take a football gambling genius to realize that road games are generally tougher to win than home games, no matter how bad or good your team is. The Dolphins are going to be playing their 9th game this season this upcoming weekend, and of those 9 games they will have played in Miami a grand total of 2 times. I truly can not remember a team in the NFL having this few home games by the time the middle of November hit.
Sure the Dolphins lost a home because they played in London (and why are we always in London?) but to have played 6 of your 8 total away games by your 9th game of the season is just unfair. Yes I know that if the Dolphins had a better team they could have won a few more of these games, then they would be in the driver’s seat for a playoff spot with a remaining schedule loaded with home games. However, when compared to the other major sports in the United States, most fans would agree that home field advantage is more of advantage in the NFL than the other sports, like MLB, NBA and NHL. In addition since the NFL has a lot fewer games compared to the other professional sports in the United States, it makes each of these 16 regular season games extremely important, and leaves little room for error, or time for a team to be in a slump. So when a team has to play 75% of their away games by just over the halfway point of their season, it is not entirely fair and is a recipe for disaster.
To me this just shows one more reason of why the Dolphins need a new owner, because Ross has no clue how to run a football team, let alone a winning football team. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about this ridiculously lopsided schedule that has made the Dolphins play on the road for most of the first half of the season?

Now youve hit on what ails this franchise. The owner is focused on entertainment, not football.
All you have to look at is what happens on the field. Ross is focused on football for making money and entertainment first, and quality team and play secondary.
I would not be against Ross moving to LA with a new franchise.
I too would like a new owner. But, he loves south Florida and it is his second home. Unfortunately, we are stuck w/him for toooo long!
I dont think his intention is to do the wrong thing, but he seems one of the slowest of wits of any billionaire I have seen – via TV of course. My Hobnobbing with billionaires as been at a real low as of late.
This is not evaluating the roster or they way they have/will play(ed) (so save it Freak). But, this is the worst schedule I have ever seen for a team in my entire existence, Seriously.
1) Miami’s 4 of the first 5 games are on the road
2) Miami had a road game prior to their week 5 bye and a road game following the week 5 bye.
3) 6 out of the first 8 games on the road, or 8 out of their first 11 (Seriously???) A, A, H, A, A, H, A, A, A, H, A
4) They have a 3 straight road game stretch, which only a few ever have that each year
5) Their bye week is early (as it ALWAYS is)
6) Miami get’s 2 prime time games, the first is a HUGE divisional game on a Thursday on the road, so they get a few days to prepare for New England (their biggest foe of the year), @ New England (remember this). The second is a Monday night game @ home (wow), however they have to travel to San Diego on a shortened week the following game????
Lets just compare Miami’s schedule to New England’s
* The Pats do not have a 3 game road stretch – Miami 1
* The Pats do have a 3 straight home game stretch w/2 of those games being divisional foes – Miami 0
* The Pats have 2 Thursday games, giving them 2 stretches of 10 days off with their bye in between giving them another 14 day stretch off in the first 8 games. So in the first 8 games the Pats had 2 weeks of 10 days off, and 1 week of 14 days off = 34 days of extra rest. One of those Thursday games allowed the Pats 10 days to prepare for a divisional opponent – Miami 4 days to prepare for theirs
* New England ONLY has 2 instances the whole season where they play back to back road games – Miami only has 2 instances the whole season where they play back to back home games
This schedule regardless who’s fault it is/was is a total joke and the NFL did a disservice to the Dolphins for the 2015 season. Absolute insane schedule for anyone!!! It may be Ross’s fault, not to concerned about the teams need, as he is Ross’s and his desire to host a Super Bowl.
How about playing in a Super Bowl, not prioritize of hosting one!
yeah its the cart before the horse…doesnt usually work out well!!
You might be right
So many away games probably contributed to our losses, but let’s face the major reason we lost so many games is that we have a big deficiency in our players
We just don’t have top notch players
Our linebackers stink
Our left corner is a joke
And the most important offensive line is probably the worst in the NFL
Douglas and white are not starting caliber guards – heck they aren’t even backup material
Left tackle is always getting injured and now our right tackle is out
We have no real good backups for those tackles
As a result Tannehill is always under pressure and has no time to find the receivers
Our defensive line which was supposed to be our strength is allowing more yards per run than any other team in the NFL
Our only good safety is Rashard Jones
We don’t have a bruising running back and no full back to gain 2 to 3 tough yards up the middle consistently but to do that you also need a good offensive line
I again point out one of the biggest if not the biggest problem we have which is Tannebaum
His decisions are horrible imagine not even talking to the best guard available in free agency when we ended up with 20 million under the CAP – Mathis went to Denver and now they are 8-1
Mathis should be a Dolphin
The excuse we hear is that this years team was not important that we needed to save the money for next year – with that attitude is it no wonder we are the laughing stock of the NFL
I am so disappointed in the decision making of the front office ever since Tannebauum took over – this years draft was a complete bust the top 4 players we drafted have not contributed at all
Parker is a no show
Phillips is a backup in training
Stills is not a contributor
And jamil Douglas is rated officially the worst guard in the NFL our 2 guards are worse than any backup guard in any NFL team yet we said no to Mathis – are we crazy – what is wrong with our front office Mathis went for 2 million to Denver – we couldn’t afford that ?? Heck we stupid
So of all our draft picks this year none – that’s right none are helping us win games
We know it’s not Hickey’s fault – when he made the decisions last year we got great players – now that Tannebaum decides we got backups at best – officially the worst draft we have ever had
and to top it off our QB cannot Throw the deep balls
I saw last weeks posting of Marino and watched him connect on 42 long balls on that clip – our QB only has one deep ball so far this season
It pains me to see my beloved Dolphins sink to this level
I am still a season ticket holder
I still will travel to London to watch them play
But I am disappointed with half our players
I know we have 3 extra third round picks possibly as compensatory picks this coming year
I hope we get players that can really stand out as good players
But I am afraid that Tannebaum will screw it up again and we need so many positions filled
We need to pick up at least 10 good starting caliber players to become contenders
So I am afraid it will be a few years before we are winners again or a new owner that cares about winning
Tannebaum was the worst acquisition we have made – we would be so much better without him
We will probably end up in the top 5 teams to pick in next years draft
That is my 2 cents worth of opinion
Defensively starts w/linebackers = below average at best, we need a complete new LBer core, some athletic, explosive players (through the draft)
We are going to need 2 CBs next year some way some how, definitely 1
Tanny is not the answer, sorry wish I weren’t saying this
You need guards in the NFL, not us though
We do have a bruising back in Ajayi, finally
Tannebaum was/is a joke, Hickey had a real good start, only to have the rug pulled out from under him. Unfortunately Ross holds the answers, but he is a clueless NFL owner (great businessman)
So much good stuff Dunner. I’m working on a series of articles now that covers alot of what your saying…going to go position by position over our team and see what the consensus of universal Phin mind is. But one point I liked tapped into my love of history and WW2. Hitler had this complicated power structure that was like a tangled ball of yarn that always delayed axis and allowed the smooth structure of the allies with Ike disseminating command smoothly down hill to gain the initiative and have a huge advantage. We have this screwed up system with Ross at the top and over in Pats land Kraft is Roosevelt and Bill is Ike. Not saying Rss is Hitler, but commands the same…like a jackass.
Great analogy admin. So true, so true. I am looking forward to that article.
