Grier & Dolphins still wheeling and dealing!
After signing Cedrick Wilson and trading for Tyreek Hill the Dolphins were suddenly loaded at the wide receiver position. Most were betting that the Dolphins would quickly look to trade DeVante Parker. Well, it was a smart bet with the best PHH bookie service because the Dolphins have officially traded Parker to the New England Patriots.
Parker is NOW a Pat
The Dolphins traded Parker and their 2022 fifth round pick for the Patriots 2023 third round selection. There was speculation that Miami would get a fourth round pick for Parker, so getting a future third round pick and shedding $3.3 million in 2022, and another $6 million in 2023 was good business. However, trading a talent like Parker to a division rival isn’t ideal. Knowing our luck, Parker will stay healthy and play all 17 games next season with a couple big games against us next season.
Let’s hope our luck has changed!
Preston Williams must step up in his place because he’s now our tallest receiver on the roster. Even though we have a lot of speed at that position with Waddle, Hill, and Wilson, we lack big-bodied receivers. Unfortunately, Williams has the same problems as Parker, which is being able to stay healthy for an entire season. On the plus side, he is one darn good run blocker.
Looking to the 2023 Draft!
The Dolphins are clearly punting on the 2022 draft with now only 4 picks remaining ( 3rd, 4th, and two in the 7th round) and each of those was from a trade from a different team.
Coincidently, the Dolphins do need a punter and there is a very good one that many analysts are predicting will be selected in the mid rounds in Matt Araiza from San Diego State. He averaged over 51 yards per punt, had 37 punts inside the 20 on 79 punts. Araiza had 15 punts over 60 yards and two punts over 80 yards. This kind of production would be a great weapon for our defense in flipping field position.
Lastly Miami locked up Howard with a five year contract extension on Friday with $50 million in new money. This makes Howard the highest paid CB in the league by APY, making over $24 million annually. This is great news on its face since it locks up arguably our best player through 2026. It also shows the rest of our team that when you produce like a top player consistently for years, then you will get taken care of financially. Now, Howard must stay healthy!!!
The Dolphins are clearly going all in on the 2022 Season by using all their financial and draft resources to max out their talent over the next 2-3 seasons. Now, new Coach McDaniel needs to get this offense playing up to its potential! There are no more excuses for Tua this upcoming season…
…And if he can’t get the job done next season, then Miami has loaded up on draft picks for 2023 with a total of 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. The 2023 class of QBs is much better than the 2022 class, so Miami has the capital to target a QB in 2023… if they have to?!
