Gutsy Phins Beat Colts in Indy

While these 2019 Phins lack talent, they have a ton of fight, discipline, and are developing

Despite key injuries at the quarterback and receiver position, the Indianapolis Colts were billed as 10 point favorites against the Dolphins. Things didn’t play out as was expected. The 1-7 Phins pulled out a hard-fought win over the 5-3 Colts leaving both fanbases in shock.

Miami entered the game as the most disciplined team in the NFL, and it was that iron discipline that was the backbone for their 16-12 victory in Indianapolis. Ultimately though, it was the three turnovers generated by the secondary that was the deciding factor.

How crazy was the interception by Steven Parker?!

Many poked fun at the T.N.T wall runs at practice. While we don’t know if these runs made a difference or not, it’s clear that Brian Flores’ vision of a disciplined team has become manifest.

While there’s a long way to go, the laughter of the Dolphins franchise is slowly dying.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win”

Despite missing Hilton and Brisset, the Colts were a tough out

At home, the Colts’ potent defense, offensive line, and running back were expected to beat up the Phins and win. Considering the poor odds that the pay per head sportsbook sites like AcePerHead.com gave Miami to win, Phins fans should be proud of this upset. With back-to-back wins, Miami has completely stepped out of the ‘tank’ and worst team ever conversation. The question now isn’t how high their draft picks will be, but how many games they will win. And that’s the way it should be.

With 5 of their last 7 games against the Bills, Browns, Jets, Giants, and Bengals, Miami has some very winnable games left. My goal has always been six wins for this season. Six wins with a gutted team gives plenty of credence that Flores is an above-average coach.

While I lost faith after the Skins game, only a fool would doubt Flores’ intentions now. While many teams are quitting and growing weaker, this squad is growing stronger. Getting five or six wins is again my goalpost. Yes, this will push them farther from Young, Tua, and Burrow, but would our beloved Don Shula ever think of draft status over wins?

If the Front Office is the right one, they’ll find the right quarterback without needing the #1 Overall.

Brian Flores’ tight ship versus Adam Gase’s helter-skelter

The Adam Gase era was noted for ‘sloppy play’, and this foundation of quicksand mired the regime. They beat themselves more often than not. So far, the Flores regime is quite the contrary. Miami is developing the skill of being disciplined and patient enough to ‘allow’ opposing teams to beat themselves… instead of beating themselves. This a key ingredient for a championship team…

… but a talent roster is equally crucial.

If the talent base can be increased while maintaining this type of hard play and discipline, then the Miami Dolphins franchise will pull up from its two-decade-long nosedive. More and more, as Flores coaches up his team, the ball is moving squarely into Chris Grier and Marvin Allen’s court. And with all these picks that Miami has acquired, there aren’t any excuses for the Front Office not to succeed.

When you take a step back, the future is looking brighter than it has in a long time.

Dolphins wins making the loons come out

But, even though the ‘tank narrative’ is starting to head in a more positive direction…

.. there are media holdouts.

Trey’s response to the Phins this week.

I never use ‘swear words’ in my articles and try to be as ‘professional’ as I can… but this guy might be the biggest a-hole out there. It’s sad that this jerk is so invested in his ego that he’d rather double and triple down rather than walk back his ‘tank talk’.

Hey, Trey, just own up because your hole is getting deeper.

On the second thought, don’t, Trey. It will make watching you swallow the ‘extra’ much more fun.

There’s still almost half a season left

Well, here we are with a record of 2-7. If the 49ers lose tonight, it’s smooth sailing for a while. How many more can we get in these last seven games? This second half of the season should be much more fun than the first half… and then comes the draft! Go Phins!!!
