Help is on the Way

Everyone knows that if Miami wants to make a push for the playoffs next season, then they need to especially improve in the linebacker position. Miami will be shedding contracts of linebackers who did not produce up to expectations and will be scouring the league for improvements. The Bills had one of the better defenses in the league, and they have been a tough matchup for the Dolphins over Philbin’s three-year tenure, so the Phins should strongly consider killing two birds with one stone and signing one of their stalwarts on defense; Jerry Hughes.

Hughes was a highly touted recruit coming out of TCU in 2010 and was drafted in the first round by the Indianapolis Colts. For whatever reason Hughes never got comfortable in Indy, but after signing with the Buffalo Bills he has really put it together and is beginning to make a name for himself. In the last two seasons in Buffalo, he had 20 sacks, which makes him one of only 6 players to hit double-digit figures in sacks in both 2013 and 2014. Obviously it does not hurt that now he is getting the chance to play alongside Mario Williams, Marcel Dareus, and Kyle Williams, but he is quickly proving to opposing offenses that he needs to be accounted for as well.

He would be a good addition with Wake and Vernon, and he has the ability to play in either a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense, so he would give the Phins a lot of flexibility on defense. He has played very well in Buffalo in his role as a sidekick, and he would be able to play a similar role in Miami. Not only that but the loss of Hughes would definitely be a hit to the Bills defense, and at the same time be a boon to the Dolphins defense.

Whatever the Dolphins decide to do to the line-backing position, one thing is for certain, they need to get better, and have players that can make impact plays that will influence the outcome of the game. Hughes is an upcoming play-maker in this league, and he would not even cause Miami to break the bank to gain his services.
