In life, people take risks all the time, and the saying usually goes that the higher the risk, the higher the reward, and obviously the increased risk of failure. The entire draft is a risk because it is difficult to select players that can be productive in the NFL and be productive in the system that your team has in place. Just because a young player may not be productive on the Oakland Raiders does not mean he can not be productive on another team. The Dolphins must select players that fit their style and system of play.
One such player that may be the biggest example of a high-risk high reward player in this upcoming draft is Dorial Green-Beckham from Oklahoma. Green-Beckham is an absolute specimen of a human being at 6’6” 220 pounds with a blazing 40-yard dash speed for his huge height of 4.55 seconds. His last college season was in 2013 for Missouri where he finished with 59 receptions, 883 yards, and 12 touchdowns. There is no questioning his talent, however, he has had off-field issues that caused him to be kicked off of Missouri, and then he went to Oklahoma, however, the NCAA did not allow him to become activated for games. He did practice with the team all year and the coaches praised him for his work ethic, and skill.
It is rare that a wide receiver with this much height and speed comes along, and since a team like the Phins need a true red-zone threat, and a big-bodied receiver they might be the perfect team to take a chance on him. Due to his off the field issues, many mock drafts do not even know where to project him. Some mock drafts have him as high as the first round or as low as the fifth round. He is being compared to an AJ Green and Randy Moss type of player. This is a player that the pay per head reviews can justify betting on in any round.
If the Dolphins do not draft a receiver with their first-round pick, then they may strongly want to consider Green-Beckham as their 2nd or 3rd round pick. The Phins passed on Randy Moss during the Jimmy Johnson era, and the Phins passed on Dez Bryant during Jeff Ireland’s tenure, so they may not want to pass another unique physical specimen at the wide receiver position. He is the type of player that has tremendous upside and would not be someone that Phin fans would be upset about taking a chance on. The Dolphins need to strongly consider Green-Beckham because he has the ability to be one of the most dynamic players to come out of this entire draft. What does the rest of Miami Dolphin News fans think about taking a risk on drafting Green-Beckham?
