How High Can Holland Fly in 2022?

Jevon Holland was a great Dolphins draft pick

The Miami Dolphins picking safety Jevon Holland #36 Overall in the 2021 Draft may end up being one of the best moves they’ve made in a long time. The kid has it all, smarts, speed, intelligence, and an infectious personality. Holland played beyond his years as a rookie and has one heck of a season. With a full year in the NFL under his belt and possibly an offense good enough to have the Phins playing from ahead, how much higher can Holland take his game?

Holland could end very special player

I’m a little old to get gushy over players. Minkah was the last one I swooned for and before that Wake. The next stop for me being deeply invested in a player datres way back to the 90’s with Thomas and Taylor. But, over the course of the 2021 Season, Jevon Holland kicked in the door and demanded that I act like a kid again and grab my pom-poms.

I couldn’t help it.

I was crossing my fingers and toes for running back Javonte Williams in the second round, but while the kid is one helleva’ player, I’m so glad Miami nabbed Holland. While I would love a high-end running back, safeties have more trend on their wheels than RBs. Also, his ability to play the high safety in Cover-1 is a critical asset for the Dolphins defense, and even with all the offense added, defense is the foundation of the Dolphins team.

We all know the base stats: 69 total tackles, two interceptions, 10 passes defended, three tackles for loss, 16 pressures, 4 knockdowns, 2.5 sacks, and 1 hurry in 13 starts. Also, we know PFF showered the kid with praise giving him an overall grade of 84.6 ranked fourth among NFL safeties, while his coverage grade of 87.7 ranked third. That 87.7 was the highest cover grade on the Dolphins!

What more could you ask of a rookie?

Holland allowed 20 of 33 completions with 60.6% of his targets being completed, which was ranked 76th best. But, some good context on what his play was like, Holland was targeted at 15.6 yards of depth of target 3rd highest in the NFL. Holland was a playing last line of defense and making some big stops deep. While Holland was tied for 44th worst by giving up 4 TDs, he allowed a messily 52 yards after the catch. But, again, Holland was a rookie and he still has plenty of room to grow.

And that’s the amazing part, Holland isn’t a finished product… not by a long shot. Imagine what this kid looks like in a couple of years as the game slows down for him? You can bet with the best pay per head that Holland will be a key piece and leader of the Miami Dolphins defense for the next decade plus! Go Phins!!!
