If An Offensive Linemen Is The Best Player At #22

Offensive Linemen might be the best value at 22

Offensive Linemen might be the best value at 22

Despite the need for defense, what if Offensive Linemen are the best value?

The Miami Dolphins have said they are planning to go heavy on defense in the draft; however, they will not let a top tier talent go unselected if he is still on the board. But will that hold true if that player is an offensive player–even an Offensive Guard?

The Dolphins hold the 22nd pick in the first round of the upcoming draft, and there is a possibility that there will be two top Offensive Lineman still available when Miami’s turn on the clock is called.

Those two Offensive linemen are Western Kentucky’s Guard Forrest Lamp and Alabama’s Offensive Tackle Cam Robinson. Both of these young men are considered the top prospect at their respective positions, so if either player falls to the Dolphins, then Miami may very well decide that it is well worth the risk to get the top Offensive Lineman, instead of a top 5 Linebacker or Defensive End.

Many free bookie software fans are betting that Cam Robinson is going to end up being the best Offensive Tackle to come out of this draft. However, Robinson is sliding on some mock drafts because of his arrest from 2016. Robinson and fellow friend and teammate Hootie Jones were arrested last May for marijuana and weapons charges. Subsequently, the charges were dropped entirely. However, in the world of professional sports, teams do not just forget things like that. Many teams will not even bother putting Robinson on their Draft board because of this, which could be a good thing for Miami.

We need defense, but we need Offensive Linemen

As everyone knows, last year Laremy Tunsil slid down the draft board because of a last-minute leaked gas mask marijuana smoking videotape. Since he was still on the board when it was Miami’s turn to select, the Dolphins did not hesitate and made Tunsil their choice. This shows that Miami is not going to immediately shy away from a player that may have a bit of a checkered or questionable past.

If Robinson does end up free-falling down the draft board and landing in Miami’s lap, I believe he would be the unanimous pick. Even though Miami does not need a Left Tackle, they can easily move Robinson to Guard or Right Tackle, which would immediately be a big improvement for our Offensive line. Also, Ja’Wuan James’ contract is up next season, so he could be a possible replacement for him if James continues to stall in his development.

The other option may be Lamp, who is the best Guard prospect in the draft, and most draft pundits think there will be an even better chance of him still being available when the Dolphins are on the clock in the first round. Lamp was the best offensive lineman at the Senior Bowl, and even though he did not play for a true powerhouse college program, he still was an excellent collegiate player throughout his entire career.  He played Left Tackle at Western Kentucky, however, most NFL scouts see him as a Guard in the NFL due to natural strength and athleticism that are superior to his foot speed and footwork. This will be an interesting decision for the Dolphins, because if Lamp is available then it would be hard to pass on the number one rated Guard in the entire Draft, considering we definitely need a Guard.

While the defense is in dire need, Guards are needed as well

Drafting an Offensive Lineman in the first round is not a sexy pick, and even though the Dolphins have done it quite a few times over the last decade, Miami may do it again if they can select a top prospect because there is no question that the biggest question mark on offense is still the offensive line.  If Miami has the chance to finally solidify their offensive line with a top prospect, then I really think they should do it.  Then with the rest of their picks, they can load up on defense. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ and the best pay per head review sites’ thoughts about selecting one of these two Offensive Lineman in the first round?
