What a difference a change of coaching can make. The Dolphins just completed an inspiring dominant performance against the Tennessee Titans. The Dolphins played a complete game from the very first series of the game to the very last series of the game, and the result was a 38-10 dismantling of the Titans. This was the best this team has played since their beat down on the Chargers last season in San Diego. This performance was how most of us ‘Phin Fans were predicting they would play from the start of the season.
Everything we spoke about all season on this blog ad nauseam, such as run the ball and put pressure on the QB, is what they finally did, and the result was a resounding victory. I absolutely loved that Dan Campbell decided to finally commit to the run, and he made a statement by running the ball on the first two plays of the game. In addition, he finally games Lamar Miller a chance to run the ball with 19 carries. Miller rewarded the team with a 113-yard performance on the ground that was good for an incredible 6.2 yards per carry average, and 1 touchdown.
On Defense, they finally stopped the run and put pressure on the QB. The Defense only allowed 63 rushing yards on 18 carries for a 3.5 yard per carry average. This is a far cry from what they were allowed in the first 4 games. As a result of shutting down and making the Titans non-existent on the ground, the defense was able to finally pin their ears back and rush the QB. The defense had 6 sacks, which is incredible, considering they only had 1 in the first four games. Speaking of incredible, Cameron Wake was a menace with 4 sacks. As a result of all the pressure, and disruption in the backfield, the Dolphins also caused 4 turnovers.
The team finally played with emotion, which makes it evident that the underlining issue with this team was the coaching of Joe Philbin and Kevin Coyle. They were definitely holding this team back, and without them, this team appears to have the talent to be competitive. Regardless of how this season ends, the best pay per head reviews in the world are going to be betting that the Dolphins are going to play competitively. I know it is a homer thing to be saying, but there is still plenty of seasons left to be played, and if Miami can build off this victory, and this overall team performance, then they can be in the playoff hunt when the calendar turns to December. What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about the dolphin performance today and where they are heading for the remainder of the season?

Getting everyone to buy in is the key. Not sure if that can be accomplished in one game. But, boy it is a good start. Get a good win this Sunday @ home and start to build a little momentum. One game at a time, but boy that Patriot game could be interesting should Miami beat the Texans Sunday. Campbell will need all his T’s crossed and I’s dotted against Billacheat and staff. I believe with the right game plan Miami can play with the Patriots. One thing is for sure we need to keep running the ball, regardless of the YPC, the threat alone does so much for the entire offense and a functional running game does just as much for the defense.
It was great to see guys flying around. Great to see three straight runs at one point. Great to see a pick 6. How about the SACKS, wow did we miss those. Overall guys excited, pumped on the sidelines, rooting their teammates on regardless which unit/players were on the field. And how about finishing the game off with a blitzing sack to put the exclamation point on (something the previous staff would have NEVER, NEVER done to close a game out).
2-3, lot of work to be done. It is a start in the right direction regardless who the opponent was. Miami was a under dog via Vegas, nationally people were taking the Titans, funny thing was the only people/experts that pick Miami were ex-NFL players. Think they knew what the situation was all about or was it just a coincidence? Believe they knew the talent was there and just maybe there was something lacking from the old staff.
It appears this team is finally playing football. They went back to basics and you can bet they will continue to commit to the run and let defense play with a simplified play book. Now need to finally beat the Texans
Lets not go crowning their arses just yet. It is a better performance but it was the Titans…who havent won at home in what? Two years?
The questions I have are why did these players play so poorly prior to Campbell era? They’re the same players.
Has anyone noticed the upcoming schedule after our home game vs Texans? It aint pretty.
I like Campbell but to think he can turnaround 4 years of malaise from Philbin era on one bye week is not realistic nor fair. Campbell needs to have a complete off season and go through a draft with his player type preferences before he can be judged as an overall HC.
Freak, I think of it this way: It’s 3 + years of wear dealing with Philbust. The screw ups of his, incompetent leaders in Coyle and possibly Lazor, the petty concerns like gum on the carpet, the pushing out of players he was too weak to deal with and the absolute weak, anti social, zombie like persona that drove me crazy after 3 min of talking on the screen. It’s enough to destroy moral. I’ve been in cancerous locker rooms, but this was cancerous, inept and unlikable. First two season they fought and last season they started to quit…Odrick was the tip. Now I won’t crown Campbell, but he has for this first game got his players to play as they should. He won’t fix Dallas’ inability to max a switch, or Pouncy’s inability to deal with linemen, McCain’s inability to cover ect. But these players need to want to hurt and suffer for a win because if they dont and the other team does then victory will rarely happen.
I agree with you Jimmy. For the first time in 4 years, we have players giving their every effort. No one knows how many games we will win, but at least I get a sense that we won’t be laying down anymore.
