Is ALL This Phins QB Talk the Ultimate Fakeout?
Will the Phins fakeout the other teams, their fans, or themselves?
Almost every mock draft out there has the Phins picking a quarterback with their top pick. Whether they trade up to draft Tua or staying put and draft Tua or even Herbert… they are always reported to walk away with a QB.
But what if it ends up being a smokescreen for the ultimate fakeout because Miami isn’t sold on any of the top quarterbacks? Could the plan be to take a flier on a mid-round QB this draft? Maybe the real target is Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields next year?
Who knows?
Sure, if Miami foregoes a top QB prospect this year, we’ll be talking about Miami having to trade up to get either Lawrence or Fields in 2021. Yes, the pressure will be higher to find a franchise quarterback next year. But isn’t the right move to draft the right quarterback, not just a quarterback… even if it takes a couple of years? Rushing into the wrong quarterback at the wrong price never ends well.
Don’t forget, Miami also has two 1st rounder’s and two 2nd rounder’s next year as well. That’s plenty of ammunition to make a blockbuster trade up in 2021. And they could also parlay some of this year’s picks into more blue-chip picks for next year, too. So an all-in move to trade up next draft might even work out better.
The options are unlimited for the Miami Dolphins over the next two years
If things shake out the right, Miami will be in the driver’s seat to trade the 5th pick. Herbert or Tua could net a monster trade with a QB hungry team. Depending on how Free Agency goes, the Chargers, Panthers, Jaguars, Raiders, Colts, or Bucs could be in the market for a young QB. All of these teams might be desperate to pay a premium for Miami’s pick. Yes, both the Raiders and Jaguars have a quality QB, but they do have two 1st RD picks and could be interested in an upgrade.
With this kind of leverage, Miami’s plan could be gathering picks like a class A hoarder. The Phins could even pick up another Day 1 pick or two this year or the next and still have Love in play. Getting extra premium ammo is never a bad thing! This is considered a deep draft and the more picks they have, then the higher chance they hit on some of these picks.
Patience is the key to the Phins rebuild
If Miami focused all their attention on getting offensive and defensive lineman, and a few other pieces and hit on even half of the picks, along with a couple of key Free Agents, the Phins would be in a great place going into the 2021 Draft. In this scenario, the Phins could go all-in on their QB in 2021.
Let’s dream for a moment:
Grier fills a lot of holes this offseason and gets Miami to go 8-8 or 9-7 without a young franchise QB. Then the Phins use a bunch of their 2021 draft picks to fill their last major need of QB with Fields or Lawrence.
Does this sound worth the wait? Does this sound like a real winning formula?
Tua won’t play this season and will cost Miami quality players this year… and even more so with a trade up. Yes, he could never be injured again and be a transcendent player. There is certainly a possibility of this. But what’s the better bet though with the best PPH bookie service (AcePerHead.com)? What move would you bet on? The Phins going for Tua this year or focusing on filling other major needs and picking up extra blue-chip picks for an all-in-on Lawrence or Fields next year?
There isn’t a fan or expert who knows the future. No one can say for certain what the winning move is. And in truth, not even the Dolphins know exactly what they will do. But, we will know soon enough and then real evaluation can begin. Whatever Miami does, let’s hope they don’t overthink it or get too cute and fake themselves out in the process.
What does the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think about this alternate universe scenario?

Hello Admin and Dol-Fans
Very Nice Article! Just a reminder the game that LSU almost lost was LSU and Auburn 2019. Had Auburn recovered the onside kick after scoring and their QB Nix was not a freshmen they just may have given LSU a lost. The highlight reel is only about three minutes. Also Auburn has some nice players entering the NFL draft Mid round to undrafted in the 2020 draft.

LSU hadn’t trailed that late in a game all season, but LSU finally pushed in front by going back to a running game that had struggled most of the first three quarters. Edwards-Helaire ran four straight times for gains for 45 yards, capped by his 6-yard score to put LSU in front 16-13.
Burrow’s 7-yard rushing TD, capping another run-heavy drive, widened the lead to 23-13.
Auburn: Nix looked more prepared to play in a hostile environment than he did at Florida two weeks earlier. The freshman made his share of plays, but wasn’t quite consistent enough for Auburn to keep pace with a more seasoned and prolific LSU offense down the stretch.

Yeah, this was a fun one to edit… I did add the Lucy and Charlie Brown bit… He’s pretty young and might not even know who Charlie Brown is! You see the report that someone close to Tua ‘leaked’ that he had a weird meeting with the Phins? Don’t like that… I’m sure it was allowed to be leaked by him.

Hey, Chuck had to approve first-time posters with this two-bit posting system Jimmy’s got over here. Yeah, I’m in an agreement with that as well. Look at the Titans. They can basically plug and play decent QBs and do well. I could see the CB being taken though @ 5 if he’s still there. He looks special.
