Could Henry be there at 42 to offer a potential second round steal for Miami?
The NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and it’s still anyone’s guess what Miami will do with their first round selection? But, is Henry a potential second round steal for Miami?
My personal preference is that Miami trades back, and then selects one of the top corner backs in the Draft, such as Eli Apple or William Jackson III. This would be my best case scenario because it would allow us to select a big bodied potential starting CB, and then give us an extra second or third round selection. If Miami does select a CB or anyone besides RB Ezekiel Elliot, then my preferred second round selection would be the RB from Alabama – if he is still there.
Henry was last year’s Heisman Trophy winner because he is a rare combination of strength and speed. Henry is 6’2”, 247 pounds, and ran the 40 in 4.54 seconds. Last season, he was the work horse of the National Champion team, with 395 carries for 2,061 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 receptions and 91 receiving yards. In addition, because of his tremendous size, Henry is a very good blocker in pass protection as well, which gives him a lot of upside to become a true three down starter. The only worry I would have, is that Henry has a ton of mileage already with 602 carries in his 3 years at Alabama. However, the other way to look at this, would be that all these carries proves that he can handle a heavy work load if his number is consistently called upon.
For all his size, Henry is the most explosive player in the draft within the first 20yrd of the “40”.
Last, here’s a little tidbit to nibble on: ESPN’s “Sports Science” has Henry having the fastest first 5 yards in the “40” in the last five years. To add to that, his first 20 yards was the fastest of any player in this years draft. Check the whole video here.
Since running back is not a position that is highly valued in the first round of the draft, a player such as Henry could easily still be on the board when Miami selects with the 11th pick in the second round, which would be the 42nd overall selection in the draft. If he is still on the board, and the Phins did not draft Elliot, then most pay per head bookie fans would agree that Henry would not only fill a huge need, but could also be one of the best players available.
Henry and Ajayi, who is also a big bruising back at 6’0, 228 pounds, could be a very young promising running back duo in the zone stretch that Gase is running. They would bring a smash mouth type of football to the running game as both players have the power and strength to wear on a defense deep into the fourth quarter. The Dolphins need to get tougher, and Henry would be the perfect way to fill that big need. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about selecting Henry?
