Jermon Bushrod Making Believers

Jermon Bushrod could be a key to the Dolphins offensive production.

Jermon Bushrod has made most onlookers, some who are usually quite negative, into believers. He was bigger than most expected, had a presence that had players gravitating to him, and was a savvy veteran who fit right in and was able to teach younger players..

It’s rare that even Omar Kelly gushes about a Dolphins player, and even he, among many other columnists, was impressed with Jermon Bushrod’s appearance in OTA’s.

After practice, players were also displaying similar sentiments, and at the very least this shows that one more leader is present on the Dolphins offensive side of the ball- and that’s never a bad thing.

Obviously, it is quite early and without live action who can say what will become of Jermon Bushrod’s acquisition as far as production. But, we must remember that this is a 9 yr vet who posted two Pro Bowl seasons to go along with several other successful campaigns.

With recent reviews of Laremy Tunsil at guard less than glowing, this offers a lot of insurance to a position that was downright terrible last season – Left Guard.

With all the interior defensive line talent in the AFCE, Left Guard is nearly as crucial as Left Tackle as the 2015 season revealed to the dismay of Fin Fans.

Laremy Bushrod’s emergence as a leader and fixture would go along way to the Fins success.

Bushrod was hand picked by Adam Gase. Given all their time together in Chicago, this should turn into a successful move if Gase has even remotely decent ability to judge talent.

The success of this move also plays big in that it will allow Tunsil time to transition successful into a starting Guard, or simply as back-up Tackle for 2016 and a starter beyond that. At this point of Tunsil’s career, you don’t want to damage him in anyway with trying to jam a square peg into a round hole if he for some reason can’t play Guard. Confidence is a strange master. And with all his draft day controversy, it doesn’t take an expert at football gambling to bet that you don’t want any negative labels getting attached to his ability.

In the end, the jury is a long way from being out on Jermon Bushrod, but I can say it’s rare to see such enthusiasm about a free agent this early. The great part is even if Jermon is somehow supplanted by another player, his leadership and the depth he provides to such a needy and crucial unit is a very good thing. Go Fins!!!
