Jets & Bills Picks Demand Phins Get O-line Help Day 2

Bills & Jets picked up elite DTs… Phins MUST counter with O-line help

The Phins did a great job adding Christian Wilkins Day 1

But after the Jets and Bill added stud Defensive Tackles Ed Oliver and Quinnen Williams in Round 1, Miami must draft Offensive Line help today or get the body bags ready for their quarterbacks.

The New York Jets will be especially ferocious upfront.

As it stands now, Miami will get savaged in their division unless they make several very successful moves to bolster their O-line.

The good news is there’s a load of O-line talent available in Round 2.
Add to this plenty of Wide Receiver and Cornerbacks available… and Miami has a decent chance to select quality OL value.

Just hope an early Offensive Line run doesn’t kick off the day… and Grier doesn’t over think it.

Unfortunately, the bad news is Miami picks in the middle of the round… and they only have 2 picks today.

Still, they should be able to lock down at least one O-line position in these two rounds, but they must nail their selections. With Richmond Webb calling out the pick in Round 2, I’m betting with the pay per heads that Offensive Line help is coming 48th Pick.

The lure to draw the Dolphins focus will be QBs Drew Lock, Will Grier, and Ryan Finley who are still on the board. Phins should resist this temptation. Yes, it could prove a genius move, but it will more likely be meh or a disaster. I’m guessing Chris Grier will hold his water and pick Tyree Jackson in the 4th Round… if he’s available.

Although, there is strong talk that the Dolphins will trade their 2nd Rounder for Josh Rosen. I’m cringing at that thought. Again, it could go well… but it doesn’t feel that way.

Dolphins must not repeat past mistakes of neglecting the O-line

Miami’s swiss-cheese Offensive Line is begging for the talent infusion of OT/G Jawaan Taylor, OT/G Dalton Risner, OT/G Cody Ford, C/G Elgton Jenkins, OT/G Greg Little, or G Nate Davis, who are still on the board.

Taylor won’t fall to them at #48, but if Risner or Jenkins is available, Miami will be very lucky. One of these two along with Nate Davis in Round 3, and Miami would be in a superb situation.

Risner was graded as a 1st Round talent by PFF. I love his talent and versatility. He can play Center, Right Guard, or Right Tackle… and maybe even Miami’s biggest hole, Left Guard. Risner showed excellent power and run blocking ability. His ‘claim to fame’ is he all but nullified Montez Sweat in their matchup… And that says a ton.

Elgton Jenkins is my second preference because he is a talented Center who could help Miami deal with the stud Defensive Tackles on the Bill and Jets. He’s well rounded, and though he isn’t elite, he doesn’t have a glaring weakness. One key strength though is his ability to deal with the bull rush. Also, there is some potential that he could fill the Left Guard spot… a position that at the moment doesn’t have a single live body to fill it.

So far, so good Phins Fans

There is still plenty of time left for disaster to strike. But if Grier and Co. can make today a good one… then fans should breathe a sigh of relief. Just make sure you do your good luck dance that a quality Offensive Lineman is picked in Round 2. Go Phins!!!

I count 8 New OLinemen on the Dolphins; 7 are tall. How many gems can we find

    G Deion Calhoun, 6-2 (UDFA)
    G/C Michael Dieter, 6-6(3rd round)
    C Ryan Anderson, 6-5 (UDFA)
    T Jaryd Jones-Smith, 6-7(AAF)
    T Isaiah Prince, 6’7 (6th round)
    T Aaron Monteiro, 6-6 (UDFA)

I am writing this Saturday morning! If Grier were a sailor we would be calling him Christopher Columbus! We got the DT, The QB and The OG! We also have a stockpile of 2020 draft picks. Way To Go! I have to figure that Rosen needs some work or the Cardinals wouldn’t have picked up a new QB quite so quickly. Wilkins is a gap pass rusher, which isn’t what the LB coach was claiming his defense was about. At 315, I suppose we can work on our gap defense requirements. Wilkins only had 28 reps with 225lbs. That is not impressive to me. Just another minor detail – I am very happy! The kid from wisconsin looks like a keeper too. He might be the meanest one of the bunch, right now.

Great first three rounds! Could that stumbl’in, fumbel’in football fool Steven Ross have gotten it right this time? I hope he can stay out of Grier’s way and let the man do his job!

Fully agree on Grier. I didn’t want Rosen, but due to the run on OL, he gained the best value… Rosen is coming for essentially a 4th and a few spots back in the 2nd with what we gained from the Saints… worth it. I really think this D will be interesting… I’m so curious to see how they use Wilkens and the whole squad. Dieter will likely fill the LG spot that has been vacant forever. Given what they had to work with, so far, it’s been an A draft. Grier is one cool customer, Van

It took a couple hours for the Rosen trade to soaked in. Afterward I did some study on him. Rosen has talent and I’m all far having a healthy QB competition. I Trust the Dolphins on this, We have better Coaching staff and Management now. Could be the start of a dynastic.

Agree… I think the worst case is he’ll be traded for value down the road… the kid can play. I’m interested to see if he’s as he has been portrayed or it’s been a hit job.

I did not like this trade. But I feel better based on this Artcle below.

2019 NFL Draft Day 2 winners, losers: Dolphins play cards right

The Dolphins were my biggest winners on Friday, but they weren’t the only ones. The rest of the Day 2 winners are listed on this Webb page l8sted below.

Rosen was widely regarded as the best pure passer in last year’s draft for a reason. Anyone who took the time to actually watch Rosen’s snaps last season — not just his meltdown on “Thursday Night Football” against the Broncos — saw enough of his uncanny anticipation and touch to believe far better days possibly remain ahead.

The overwhelming ineptitude of the 2018 Cardinals offense may have ended Sam Bradford’s playing career, Steve Wilks’ career as a head coach and Mike McCoy’s career as an offensive coordinator, but Rosen still has plenty of time to turn his own NFL future around. He can take solace that he’ll never play behind an offensive line as bad as the one in Arizona last season again.

Playing quarterback for the Dolphins in 2019 may look like a similarly impossible mission, but Rosen should benefit from his 13 games of experience as a 21-year-old starter. Dolphins offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea comes from New England, and his offensive philosophies appear to be a good match with Rosen’s strengths in the pocket and his ability to identify coverage before and after the snap. Dolphins assistant head coach/quarterbacks Jim Caldwell will provide an experienced quarterback tutor for Rosen to learn from. The former UCLA Bruin will have to beat out Ryan Fitzpatrick for snaps, but that seems as inevitable as Rosen’s ascension to the starting lineup in Arizona a year ago.

Dolphins will want to take a long look at Rosen this season to help them make an informed decision about how to proceed at the position in 2020, when they are loaded with draft picks (11, as of now). It’s the type of year-to-year approach they should have been taking with Ryan Tannehill, who went 42-46 in his Miami career after being selected eighth overall in 2012, but that doesn’t diminish Rosen’s ability. I’d take Rosen over the No. 6 pick (Daniel Jones) and the No. 15 pick (Haskins) in this year’s draft, and getting the deal done only cost Miami the No. 62 overall pick and a fifth-rounder.

The early days of the Brian Flores/Chris Grier era in Miami to this point were quiet, yet promising. Their acquisition of Rosen is the clearest sign yet the franchise may finally escape the soft middle of the NFL standings. It’s just going to take time, something Rosen has yet to be afforded.

The Dolphins were my biggest winners on Friday, but they weren’t the only ones. The rest of the Day 2 winners and losers are below.

    Second Round or Day Two!

I’m hoping that we can pulled off trading for more picks. Like trade back in the second and third round. Don’t be afraid of the Success that it will bring.

Admin I agree But we still need to go after the best players on the board. There are many offensive linemen up and down the board that will be a good fit for us.

Nice… thanks. Like the extra 2nd next year… but we missed out on some good talent at the Ol… so close. uck we lost a 4th this year too… guess next draft I’ll feel better about it though.

  • they need O Line in rounds 2 and 3 If they trade any of those picks for Rosen, how do they plan on protecting him?????

    • Hard to find a starting Offensive Lineman in the 4th round………or later. Can’t do anything with the 2nd and 3rd round picks, except to get starting offensive Lineman. PERIOD!!!!

      • admin

I think you can… but they tend to be more Guards and Centers. I expect Jesse Davis to play RT… I think he’ll do better there than RG. I can see them getting Nate Davis… or another to fill the LG spot. We have a bunch of guys who can play C… maybe Asiata can wake up and play RG. He isn’t a LG… don’t understand why they tried him there. I hope they find a lineman with #62 and the 3rd… we are minus a 4th now as well.

    • admin

Looks like they aren’t unless they use the #62 from the Saints. We were hosed in that run on O linemen. Like the extra 2nd next year… but we just missed out on some good linemen. So close… I don’t want Rosen… he seems like a real jerk.

    • admin

Man, they ripped the cards off… they traded with the Saints for second next year and gave them a 4th and get a 5th from the Cards… tooo good to pass up. Hope he isn’t half the jerk he seems!!
