Jimmy Bourbon Predicts Top 5 Picks

Jimmy Bourbon imitates Carnac the Magnificent & predicts the Top 5 picks

With all the players that Miami traded away to gain three 1st Round picks, Phins fans are dying to see the results of the 2020 NFL Draft. With a little over a week away, rumors, theories, and smoke screens are hitting their peaks. In truth, it’s anyone’s guess what will end up happening. But, with that being said, here’s the ‘Jimmy Bourbon Top 5 Pick forecast’.

This is exactly how it will go! You can book it with the best bookie software providers… if you’re using someone else’s money… and they don’t mind getting paid back.

Quarterback talk dominates the 2020 Draft

The chatter about the Dolphins trading all the way up to the #1 spot to draft Joe Burrow has been a storyline of late. However, just yesterday there were some leaks that Flores and Grier are not looking to trade away the farm for one player. Also, the Bengals Head Coach Zac Taylor also said he didn’t see them trading their pick.

The ‘Jimmy Bourbon pick’ for 1st Overall Pick is what everyone is expecting: Bengals select QB Joe Burrow.

Despite talk that the Washington Redskins at the #2 pick would be interested in drafting Tua, this was likely all about drumming up trade interest. The buck stops at Daniel Snyder and he is a huge fan of Dwayne Haskins. I can’t see the Redskins selecting another 1st Round QB a year after selecting Haskins with a generational DE prospect in Chase Young available.

The ‘Jimmy Bourbon pick’ for 2nd Overall Pick: The Redskins sit tight and select Chase Young.

It gets a bit murkier starting with the 3rd Pick

The real chance for a trade-up seems to be at the 3rd spot where the Lions will be on the clock. Considering that they have Matthew Stafford with H.C. Matt Patricia on the hot seat, Lions are in win-now mode. It doesn’t make sense for them to select a quarterback. The next logical option is for Detroit to trade the pick. With the Phins selecting one spot before the Chargers, either team could trade up if they feel the other will move ahead of them and take ‘their QB’.

However, recent news suggests the Chargers would be fine with either Tua or Herbert. In addition, the Lions just traded away one of the best CB’s in the league in Darius Slay to the Eagles. Since they have a gaping hole in the secondary with Jeff Okudah available as the consensus best CB in the draft…

The ‘Jimmy Bourbon pick’ for 3rd Overall Pick: Lion will go with the sure pick in Okudah.

What the Giants do with the 4th pick with have a giant impact on the Phins

The Giants have also said they are ‘open for business’ in terms of trading out of the 4th spot. Once again, it will come down to how desperate the Chargers want a QB. Will they trade valuable draft assets to move up?  The problem is the Chargers don’t have anywhere near the draft assets as Miami. So, they won’t make a move and instead just let the draft unfold.

The Giants will have the luxury of having multiple top prospects still available. They are in a great position and will either go with defensive swiss army knife Isaiah Simmons or the top-rated Offensive Tackle in Tristan Wirfs. Since the Giants have invested heavily in their franchise QB Daniel Jones, why not select the best Tackle in the draft so they can protect that franchise QB?

The ‘Jimmy Bourbon pick’ for 4th Overall Pick: My gut tells me the Giants go with Wirfs.

The Phins 5th pick will be a foundational piece for this regime

Now in this scenario, Isaiah Simmons would still be on the board, along with Tua and Herbert. Simmons is the best player of the bunch and would be ready to start Day 1. While he would be a major contributor on Defense, and we know Coach Flores has a soft spot for multi-purpose defenders, Miami could be more afraid of another ‘Drew Brees’ by passing up on a Tua. Ross and the Phins have been linked to Tua for over a year. I see it as just too much pressure for Miami not to select Tua at #5. As a result, I believe Miami will roll the dice on Tua’s injuries and give him the redshirt rookie year similar to what transpired with Mahomes in Kansas City.

Sooo…

The ‘Jimmy Bourbon pick’ for the 5th Overall Pick: Miami does the expected and drafts Tua.

Yeah, not very revolutionary, but the most likely scenario… or thereabouts

This isn’t much of a curveball, but I’m trying to be honest and not shocking. I guess anything is possible… so we’ll see soon enough! What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans’ thoughts about how the first 5 selections of the NFL Draft will unfold?

* Editor’s note from M.J.: Jimmy Bourbon is too young to know who Carnac the Magnificent is. I added that bit for us old guys.

100% agree nothing personal against Tua when healthy he’s the Best at his game. But know one really knows the out come of his injury.

Facts! High risk means High risk!
High risk means high insurance policy? What will the Dolphins coverage cover if Tua is re injured?

    Quarterbacks: These are the Facts:

Tua healthy Great–But has yet to play a full season healthy? What makes the Dolphins different?

Herbert–After 6 or 7 games will out performed both Dolphins current Quarterbacks, I have not know the fans to boo Herbert but only awe! Miami has not had a talent like Herbert. Herbert will not take too many sacks and his released is 1 to 2.5 seconds.

Utah Tyler Huntley—Has the patience-can make all throws-makes few mistakes(Around a solid team would be a solid back-up I don’t think he can win the top games? A 4th to 7th rounder

Jalen Hurst a late second to early 3rd rounder: Miami would eventually love him. But now they hate him.

    Simmons Miami would love also.

  • Steve

    Tua

    What’s the Bottom line:

Nick Saban understood he needed two championship Quarterbacks to win it all That’s why he wanted to keep Jalen Hurst in Alabama!

For those who must have Tua Asked yourself who will be the second or backup Quarterback? If you are prepared to go 2020 season without Tua and get 4 to 7 games from Tua in 2021 and possibly 4 to 7 games in 2022 then draft Tua. Tua had the top talent in the country on Alabama.

    • admin

I’d rather have slighlty less talent and much higher consistency. I just don’t like Tua. Limited injuries… heck yeah. But, this guy has an injury list like you rarely see. Maybe it changes, Steve… but, man, I just don’t feel it. Jimmy thinks they pick him… I’m praying they don’t.

Sanity Box: (Healthy)-(Best at his position)-(Can handle Success) (Outstanding Character)

    1. Simmons is plugged and play three positions.A tremendous physical specimen at 6ft 4in and 238lbs, Simmons ran the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in just 4.39 seconds. He posted a vertical jump of 39in.

That freakish athleticism allows Simmons to operate at every level of the defense.

Listed in the draft class as a linebacker, Simmons more than fits the bill of the modern-day player at that position who can guard running backs and tight ends and also pick up wide receivers on occasion.

What makes Simmons so special, however, is that Clemson also deployed him as the last line of defense at free safety, and he demonstrated the sideline-to-sideline range to consistently help over the top when cornerbacks were tested on downfield routes.

The Tigers also had the confidence to put Simmons on an island at corner, with his ability to disrupt at the catch point evidenced by his eight pass deflections and three interceptions in 2019.

    • Steve

      Continuation: Simmons

Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons is one of the nation’s most feared defensive players and was named the 2019 ACC Defensive Player of The Year. Simmons is Clemson’s leader in tackles, sacks, and tackles for loss. He is also one of five players in Power 5 conferences that has registered 80 tackles, 5.0

      • admin

Simmons was intriguing to me originally… now he’s a minor obsession… but who know what he’ll be really. It’s all a gamble and I’m not knowledgeable enough to pin a tail on jack… still, give me Simmons.

If Simmons is there at 5 the Dolphins will take him. If the chargers take Herbert with the 6th pick then the dolphins will take an OT with the 18th. However, if the chargers take Tua, the Dolphins may try to move up from 18 for Herbert.
The real dilemma is if the chargers trade up to 4 and take Tua then the Dolphins will have a decision to make.

    • admin

I’ve moved back off the fence. I don’t want Herbert. I think the lack of improvement is the straw for me. Was it coaching or him? Real evaluators with know who is at fault. Look at Burrow when he had a real coach. I don’t think he is like Eason and a bit lazy… but, if he really, really wanted it, he should have found help somewhere.

  • Steve

    Admin!

Lot a talked about Justin Herbert comparison to Ryan Tannehill–There is no comparison watch the video when you have time. This is not to beat up on Tannehill either. But the Dolphins were warned before they drafted him that high. I think the Dolphins are headed in the right direction. I continue to say I’m not selling Herbert but Herbert has started since a freshman and when Herbert injured his collarbone in 2017 or 2018 those 4 or 6 games Oregon average about 15 points a game vs with Herbert Oregon average 40 points a game. Derrick Brown, Issaic Simmons and Herbert are worthy of the 5th picked. Burrow’s and Herbert are your healthy capable QB. Possibly Tua can sit out 2020, 2021 and 2022 if injured and re injured? Once again the warning signs are there!

Risked were there being a top ten picked Ryan Tannehill drafted

I think Herbert has better pocket presence, more arm talent, and more exp at Qb… his anticipation and lack of growth is concerning for me.

Think Herbert is better as I’ve said, but he should be a lot better given his talent and that is his position and wasn’t asked to change position midway through college.

  • Steve

Consider Dol-Fans passed on QB in the 1st round. Who would be proven the 4th most accurate QB 10 yards or more? Who threw less interception and who was Sack fewer times than most QB’s Discussed?

    5th to 7th rounder:
Huntley clearly has the accuracy to thrive at the next level, and that’s without mentioning his great poise under pressure (fourth in pressured passing grade), mobility (233 designed carries in his career and above-average rushing grades each season) and decision-making (best turnover-worthy play rate among Power-5 quarterbacks).
One of the most undervalued players in the entire NFL Draft, regardless of position, is Utah’s Tyler Huntley. He was nothing more than a slightly above-average passer prior to 2019, but he looked like a completely different player this past season by raising his passing grade from 74.1 to 89.0. One thing that did remain the same was his pinpoint accuracy.
When throwing beyond the line of scrimmage in 2018, Huntley posted the second-best accurate pass rate in college football — ranking a few spots ahead of Tua Tagovailoa, Kyler Murray and Joe Burrow. In 2019, he posted a near-identical rate in that metric but dropped a few spots down to fifth. Combing the two seasons, he ranks second — sandwiched between Burrow and Tagovailoa.
And it’s not because he didn’t throw deep often — Huntley was still the fourth-most accurate quarterback on 10-plus yard passes. Accuracy is king when examining quarterback prospects, and Huntley has it.

    • Steve

      1st rounder:
Accuracy is widely considered the most important attribute for a quarterback prospect to have, and Burrow clearly knocks this well out of the park. His accurate pass rate in 2019 — on anything beyond the line of scrimmage — was nearly four percentage points higher than anything we have seen the past three seasons. Over the past two seasons, Burrow has had just under 8% of his passes result in an in completion that was faulted to him, which is by far the best rate in the 2020 draft class.

      • Steve

        1st Rounder:

Like Burrow, Tagovailoa carries the most important trait: sharp accuracy. On throws beyond the line of scrimmage last year, Tagovailoa posted the highest rate of perfectly placed passes before coming back in 2019 and generating the fourth-highest rate. Granted, he saw a high rate of open throws. But on the limited tight-window passes he had to make, Tagovailoa was still sharp by ranking fourth in uncatchable pass rate to a tight window in 2019.

        • Steve

          1st Rounder:

Herbert entered his third collegiate season as an early Heisman Trophy candidate despite being coached by a third different head coach as well as navigating his third different offensive scheme with new head coach Mario Cristobal transitioning from the spread offense to the pistol offense\\

          • Steve

            Late 2nd Rounder

Hurts had the slowest average time-to-throw this past year at 3.08 seconds, which was far slower than any other FBS quarterback (second slowest was at 2.91 seconds). Throw in the fact that he has a slow release, and it makes projecting him to the NFL a bit concerning. He does have the rushing ability, accuracy, Up for Heisman 3 years in a row.

          • Steve

            5th to 6th Rounder:

Gordon actually posted the highest accurate pass rate on throws of nine yards or less in 2019, even better than Joe Burrow (barely). On throws that were two seconds or less from the snap and weren’t a screen, Gordon owned the second-highest rate of accurate passes. Granted, these throws have minimal difficulty, but that’s still a rather impressive number.

          • Steve

            6th rounder to 7th rounder:

Eason owned a 29.4 passing grade when knocked off his rhythm, ranking 81st of 96 quarterbacks. When under pressure in general, Eason posted the second-worst negatively graded play rate in college football. And he completely collapsed when he went up against real deal college pass-rushes.

        • admin

Accuracy, anticipation, smarts, and poise under fire are keys along with Charisma as the cherry on top… But all this only matter if you are on the field… so maybe consistency is THE most important part.

      • Steve

        1st to 3rd Rounder:

Love delivered some seeds deep downfield, but you were never sure when they’d come — he was largely all over the map when throwing deep. On throws of 20-plus yards, Love threw just 30% of his passes accurately, ranking just 65th of 89 qualifiers. As bad as his deep accuracy was, he was still the eighth-most valuable quarterback of the 2019 season.

      • admin

I’d say anticipation is right there with accuracy and ability to deal with pressure.

Quarterback talk dominates the 2020 Draft

    Jimmy

Joe Burrows and a healthy Tua are the top Quarterbacks in this draft.

But there are Myths about Justin Herbert:
    a. Many say he throws a lot of intersections (2019 season—32 touchdowns and 5 interceptions)
    (2018–29TD AND 8 INT), (2017–15TD AND 5INT),(2016–19TD AND 4INT)

    b. Wikipedia.com Herbert Career (over 3 coaching changes,

    c. Bowl game each season played 2017,2018,2020 Rose Bowl Offensive MVP and 2020 Senior Bowl(MVP)

What does this mean? Herbert had a very good offensive line in front of him. In addition Oregon I thought was one dimensional strictly passing only the offense was on Herbert? Miami with the top running backs behind him along with a strong offensive line means Future Supper Bowl.

5th picked Herbert(2020 Rose Bowl MVP)(2020 Senior Bowl MVP)
19th picked Georgia OT Andrew Thomas hasn’t allowed more than 2 pressures in a single game since 2017.
25th Johnathan Taylor(Two time best running Back in the country)12 games 1200 rushing yards

Herbert will get you 14 to 21 points a game
Taylor will get you 7 to 14 points a game
    3 field goals a game
Average points a game: 30 to 40 points a game

    Hello Jimmy

On the honest note! I’m a Dol-Fans and what ever decision they make I’m supporting. Miami has the opportunity to come away with the cream of the crop having multiple picks n this draft or they can placed every chip on one player or an injury prone player.

  • Steve

    Jimmy

Those picks appear realistic for each NFL team but for sure someone will mess things up? With all the players that Miami traded away to gain three 1st Round picks it possible they can out smart themselves. Considering the Dolphins draft Tua = draft a back up when he is injured again?

I’m against Tua being drafted. Also, I’m not certain the Giants will draft a Olinemen. I think they will take Simmons… the DT they drafted played with him and it seems like the pairing might be wise. I’m just hoping the Chargers trade up with them.

      • Steve

So you would like the Chargers to take J. Herbert? If the Fins trade back for a 2nd,3rd or more I’m down with that. If the Fins take Herbert,Brown or Simmons I’m fine. Don’t be surprised the Chargers get Herbert and he give them 10 to 15 good Championship years.
