Dear Ryan Tannehill
I have been a Dolphin fan for many many years and all I want for Christmas is for you to take the Dolphins to the playoffs. The last time the Dolphins made the Playoffs was back in 2008 when Tom Brady missed the entire season with a knee injury.
The organization just signed you to a long term contract, because they have faith in you,. This contract is going to make you a very rich man, but I hope it keeps you humble and on the right career trajectory. Now is not the time for you to slack off, now is the time to make that extra push to make this a special season. You are now getting paid the big bucks, because this organization believes you have the skills and personality to get us to the playoffs and bring our franchise back to its former glory.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a lot of pressure for a young man, but we believe in you and are all cheering for you to make it happen. In order for you to make my Xmas wish come true you need to do something in particular. You need to make this your team, and take charge. This team needs a clear cut leader that they are willing to follow into battle each week, and as much as you have grown over the last 3 years, you still have room to grow as a leader. Speak to people like Dan Marino and other leaders that you know, read books about being a leader, and make it your top priority to always think “is this what a true leader would do.”
This 2015 team has been built around your strengths and your personality. The organization has gotten rid of players that liked to do more talking than playing. The team has made it a priority to give you more weapons on offense and defense. We also have an offensive coordinator that understands your strengths and weaknesses and caterers the offense to you specific skill set.
The NFL is a team game that consists of a roster of 53 players, however unfortunately the Quarterback is viewed as the hero or the goat depending on the outcome. So even though we have plenty of talent on the team, we will only go as far as you can take us. In your first three seasons you have shown steady improvements, however you have yet to give us a winning record or a playoff experience, so as much as we support you, were are also a fickle bunch and we want more tangible results like playoff games and playoff victories, instead of just the illusion of potential.
The pieces are in place, this is your year to be the new Hero in Miami. Sorry to put so much pressure on one man’s shoulders but if my Xmas wish of getting to the playoffs is going to come true, than I and the rest of the Miami Dolphin fans are counting on you to get the job done. Can you grant this wish for one of your loyal supporters?
Sincerely,
Jimmy Bourbon
I know you mean well with this article, and want to motivate tannehill to get us into the playoffs
I do have to ask though, has it been tannehill’ fault ?? The honest answer has to be a resounding NO.
He had endured more sacks in his first three seasons probably than any other quarterback in modern NFL history. He also has on an average taken more hits or at least in the top 3 of any other quarterbacks in the NFL
The amount of time that the front line has given him to throw probably ranks in the bottom 4 or 5 of any other NFL team
no – Our problem has not been tannehill. Our problem has been the front line and a second big contributor has been not having the receivers or bruising running back that it takes to win close games.
Until Lazor took over the offensive coordinator job we have to admit that Wallace had been a great disappointment. The last season Lazor changed the way we used Wallace and incorporated slants and short passing and reverses into the way we used Wallace and made him more productive. But still not good enough. He was too small, and not willing to fight for the ball. It had to be thrown perfect for him to make a catch. And that was our primary weapon ??
We have greatly improved the receiving and running back corps this off season but we failed to pick up a couple of bruising guards to protect tannehill
We will have to wait till next year probably to do that. There were a couple of reasons for that happening. 1 there wwant an elite guard in free agency that we could get. 2 the trade of Jordan for Mathis did not come through because Jordan got caught cheating again
3 the FO failed to gamble and take one of the top tackles in the 5th round because they were afraid that he was implicated in a murder. They could have invested a 7th round pick to ascertain the rights to him by trading next years 6th to any team but chose not to. So la’el Collins went to the Cowboys who are already loaded in the front line.
So now we hope that our front line does not get injured because if Albert gets injured our hopes of a winning record this year greatly diminish.
I realize that we wAnt to win now. But realistically we probably will be better positioned next year after we pick up a couple of elite guards
We are definitely better this year than any in the last 3 years, and if we stay healthy we might win 10 or 11 games but it will be hard to go to the super bowl this year.
Let’s just hope we at least make the playoffs, and that we stay healthy.
I realize there is still a possibility to add one or two players to our roster once the teams start to trim down to 53 and it is my fervent desire that an elite Guard falls in our laps, that would greatly increase our chances of being the AFC champs this year. We are very close. With luck we might pull it off. Tannehill will have his best year this year.
I would agree that Tannehill has not been the problem, however he still needs that killer instinct and needs to be more of a vocal leader. But unfortunately our success will be closely linked to Tannehill’s success. He still can help himself with some better pocket presence. Would love to have got at least one upgrade at the Guard position, but Rome was not built in a day and there was only so many holes that the Dolphins could fill in one off-season. Yes Super Bowl is far fetched, but playoffs is a definite reality if we can close out some close games.
