Jordan Cameron Struggling in Training Camp

This off-season the Dolphins had a turnover at the Tight end position with Charles Clay going to Buffalo and Jordan Cameron coming to Miami from Cleveland. Since Cameron’s signing, I personally have been very pro-Cameron and have even stated multiple times that I believe Cameron if healthy, is and will be better than Clay. However, with OTA’s and the three-day mini camp done and in the books, it appears I may have to eat my words this season because he has not looked very good at all.

Cameron has had an unfortunate case of the drops so far and he looks like he is having some difficulties getting comfortable in Miami’s complex offense. He has often been out of place and has been slow to develop a chemistry with Tannehill. Sure it is only the beginning of the off-season workouts, however, there are plenty of players on the team that has looked very sharp, so it is a bit concerning that Cameron has not been practicing up to expectations.

Since I have been such a strong supporter of Cameron up to this point, I am still willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and I will be patient and interested to see how he plays when training camp practices start in July. Most of the pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com would also say that the drops could also be because he is still not comfortable in this new offense, which is causing him to think too much instead of just playing with instinct, which is something players play with when they have complete comfort with their position responsibilities.

If Cameron continues to struggle during training camp, it would be wise for the coaching staff to let Dion Sims get more reps. Sims is a very intriguing third-year player that has quietly improved each season, and with some more snaps with the first-team offense, he has the chance to develop into a solid tight end. The tight end position is a very important part of Lazor’s offense so one of these two players needs to step in and become a productive player. Does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think Cameron will shake out of his off-season funk, or do you think we will be kicking ourselves for not trying harder to re-sign Clay?
