Last season, the Redskins were a sub-par defense that gave up an average of 27.4 points per game last season, which was tied for 30th in the league rankings last year. They had two decent additions on defense in Nose Tackle Terrance Knighton and Free Safety Dashon Goldson, but the rest of the defense screams mediocre. There is no reason that Miami’s offense, which averaged 24.3 points per game last year, and looks even more potent and efficient, can’t put up 20+ points against the Redskins this upcoming Sunday.
Most football gambling fans would say that the biggest thing that the Dolphins need to improve on offensively from last season is scoring touchdowns in the Redzone. They have added some big bodied targets this off-season in Cameron, Jennings, and Parker who will all be active for Sunday and potentially should make a difference in boosting their scoring output.
The key for Miami in this first game is to start off fast on offense, something that they had a very hard time doing in most games last year. And while it can be said that “it’s obvious you need to start fast”, a fast start is made more crucial than it’s ‘obvious necessity’ due to last year’s Fins that were flat and sluggish in most first quarters: they need to affirm they are a “new and better team”. This year’s Dolphins need to be consistent and disciplined with a well balanced offensive attack, devoid of stupid drive killing penalties.
The offensive line will have Branden Albert starting at Left Tackle, which is a huge boost to the offensive line. Albert’s presence alone will make everyone in that unit better and should help out the two young Guards Thomas and Douglas. If the offensive line can keep Tanny’s jersey clean then the ‘Phins offense should move up and down the field against the Redskins defense that’s average at best. My prediction is that Miami’s offense can put up over 30 points against the Redskins, what does the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans think about how many points our offense can score?
