Mandatory Minicamp Stand-Off

Mandatory minicamp is put up or shut up for Jones threat to hold-out.

Mandatory minicamp will be Jones chance to make good on his threats.

One of Miami Dolphins biggest and brightest stars has been a no show so far this off season, and Tuesday’s mandatory mincamp will have serious consequences if Reshad Jones continues his disappearing act.

Miami Dolphins fans had a chance to see one hell of a special season by Jones in 2015.  It was truly an amazing season, one of the best ever by a Safety in the tune of 135 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 5 interceptions, 2 touchdowns, 10 pass defenses and 6 stuffs.

Now that’s one heck of a season!

But, after a hold-out 2 years ago to force a bigger contract (in which he received), Jones is attempting a hold-out, again.

This time it’s a financial chess match against a different regime and GM.

This mandatory minicamp will be the first step in developing a precedent for this new regime.

Will Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier fold like a house of cards, or make a deal so both sides win, or will they play hardball so future players think twice? This is a stare down with big egos and bigger consequences.

This is by no means a small matter in my mind. As important as Jones is, his hold-out is primarily about him. What this regime does and in what manner they respond though will have an effect on this seasons performance for sure; But, beyond that, it will affect the minds of the many agents representing other Dolphin stars for as long as this regime is in business.

Tuesday will be a crucial moment in this very young season. Will Jones put his money where his mouth is at the tune of 70k plus for the 3 days of camp? Will Tannenbaum and Co have the guts to withstand a protracted hold-out if he does? Will Miami Fans set up burning effigies of Reshad in protest screaming not so nice words? Tuesday will be a big news day… Go Fins!!!
