Miami leaning towards DeVante Parker for first round pick

best sportsbook

The Dolphins cleaned house in their wide receiving group and before things are said and done there may still be a veteran and a rookie added to the new group. The Dolphins have shown interest in both veteran receivers, Crabtree and Jennings, however insiders tell me that Miami may not offer either of them a deal until after the draft, because they are still undecided on what role that veteran will have for the upcoming season. The phins are not sure if they want the veteran receiver to be the number 1 WR on the roster or as low as the number 4 WR, which means they do not want to pay a veteran top dollar if they are only going to use him sparingly.

The main reason why the Dolphins are willing to wait until after the draft to sign a veteran is because the best sportsbooks in the world are saying that this draft is just as deep as last year’s legendary wide receiver class. The Dolphins will have plenty of options to find a quality starting receiver in this draft, because it is loaded with around 15 NFL ready starters. The phins have a few other areas of need, however with the 14th overall pick and the possible opportunity to land one of the top three wide receivers in this upcoming draft it may be to tempting to pass one of them up.

Immediately after the college season ended when draft pundits were setting up their position rankings, the first choice on most of the best sportsbooks draft boards in regards to wide receiver was Alabama WR Amari Cooper. However, after the combine, WR Kevin White from West Virginia has impressed so much that he has now taken the number one spot on most of the best sportsbooks’ draft boards. (I have liked him the best from the beginning, he looks like another Kelvin Benjamin in the making.) After these two players, the consensus third best wide receiver is DeVante Parker from Louisville. Miami likes all three of these young players and believes either one of the three will be able to step in, and immediately be the number one receiver on the team, however so does most of the NFL teams, which means only Parker may be available when Miami is on the clock at the number 14 position.

There is no guarantee that Parker will be on the board when Miami is on the clock, but if he is, there is a strong feeling that Miami may pull the trigger on him. He spoke with Miami at the combine, and his first visit was with Miami, so there is no question that there is a high level of interest on the Dolphins’ part. I like Parker because he is a big WR at 6’3” 209 pounds and he is well rounded with quickness, very good hands, body control, and run after the catch ability. However, the only thing that worries me about Parker is that he broke his foot last season, which caused him to miss 7 games, and the year before in 2013 he missed a game due to injury. He has looked healthy throughout the draft process so it is fair to say there are now lingering injury concerns.

If Miami does pull the trigger on Parker I will say that I will not be disappointed in the pick. He has all the tools in order to be a number one receiver in the NFL, and there should be no question that he can start immediately at a position of need for us, and he will have the chance to become an impact player in his first season. What does the rest of Miami Dolphins News fans think about the Dolphins drafting Parker with the their first round pick?

Would love Parker, reality is: going to trade back in round one, to pick up a 2nd round pick. Initially didn’t like the thought of trading back, the closer the draft gets, the thought of having 3 picks within the top 60 players +/- is exciting.
This team may be 2-3 players away from a deep playoff run, and should this staff hit on at least 2 of the 3 of the picks, all the sudden we have a young ascending team, accidentally on purpose.

Don’t for about Brandon Bridge a future QB to Groom for a few years.

They just signed Josh Freeman and have Matt Moore as the back up, I do not think they will be drafted a QB this year

I love this pick, or the CB from MState. Either players are year 1 starters.

Better thought would be to trade down and pick up another 3rd.

  • If I had a pick in the first round and it was my choice, would be, take either MAXX WILLIAMS tight-end or Todd Gurley running back. If both are gone then I would take Buckley Brook from USC. My third pick would be Jordan Williams a safety. or Nelson Aghular kick-off return’s receiver. My subsequent picks would be Florida States corner Ronald Darby, Stephan Anthony LB from Clemson, Jordan Williams safety, Dennis Smith Ohio State WR, Breshard Perriman WR (UCF), Michael Bennett DT WISC, Jordan Philips Ohio State defensive line. Again we need a tight end Maxx Williams would be helping our offensive line as a run blocker and a person who has GREAT HANDS. Todd Gurley would give us our best running back in a decade. Noshan M will be returning what a back field!! remember Warfield & Kick!!!!!!! Maxx could be our Zonka / tight-end or full-back. Plenty of great Wide outs in the draft. Not many corners or safety’s.

I feel that if we hadn’t traded away our 3rd rd pick then, hands down, Devante Parker should’ve been our pick at 14. But in light of the trade for Stills, we have no choice but to try and trade down to acquire more picks. If we do trade down then I say Beckham Green is the best choice as Parker will be long gone if we trade down.

I think because we traded away our third pick, that Hickey and the phins will be extra anxious to try to trade back in the first round and pick up an extra 2nd rounder, and than like you said Dolfankirb13, Parker will be long gone and Beckham Green would be a solid consolation prize

I’ve had the feeling since the trade that gave away our number 3 pick to the Saints, that the Dolphins might trade down if they can. The reason is obvious. there are as you say 15 good starting caliber receivers in this draft. We should get 2 of them instead of one – that way we cover our bases in case of injuries. Also if we trade down 5 to 7 spots and in doing we would pick up an additional draft pick (second or third rounder). We really need that. Even a third round pick would yield us a good receiver or Guard. and then with the second pick either a corner or RB or ILB.
Lb is no longer a pressing need with Suh in the lineup, and the ones we have left on our roster could do a good job. Of course if we get Hendricks he would immediately become our starting MLB
But getting that extra pick would really help since we need to get at least 4 players of starting caliber.
Somehow I know we will get at least 3 starters. I have extreme confidence in Hickey. He is an excellent talent evaluator.
I am not too worried about the guard position. It is so crucial, that I know they will not ignore it. But I have a feeling that if we cannot trade Jordan for a pick plus Mathis to the Eagles then we can pick the NE guard out of free agency. I am sure they already told him please let us know if you get an offer we will beat it but please wait till after the draft. Something like that must be going on since we haven’t already pulled the trigger to fill that crucial position with someone that already is proven at that position. Or maybe those 2 guards will not re-negotiate their contracts and are too expensive for the Dolphins and if so we end up getting our Guard in the draft.
We might trade down again in the second round and end up with 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. Now that would be a coup. 5 starters from one draft. We would really be set although we would not have some of the more famous names out there we would still have good players and cheap. Plus with a 4th and two 5th rounders, plus a sixth round pick we can really double down on all positions of need. This could be the best draft ever for the Dolphins (No I am not smoking anything, in Hickey I trust)
I guess we are all optimistic before the draft. But I for one am extremely happy with all our moves so far.

I agree Ralph, after trading away our 3rd round pick, I believe Hickey will be extra anxious to trade back in the first round in order to pick up another 2nd round pick. And yes with two 2nd round picks I would also not be surprised if he used one of those picks to trade back in order to get back a 3rd round pick. This is a deep draft so the more picks the better considering there are 4 or 5 positions that we still need to upgrade. Hickey was not afraid to wheel and deal last year in his first season running a draft room, so I entirely expect him to be as active or even more active in this upcoming draft. Like you also said, I too have faith in Hickey’s talent evaluation, and believe he can at least find us 3 quality starters from this deep draft and armed with more draft picks he can hopefully find us even more starters
