Miami Sets Visit With Top Remaining Free Agent Linebacker Brown

Brown was my preferred choice over Timmons

Brown was my preferred choice over Timmons

At only 27 Brown has a few prime years ahead of him

The Miami Dolphins have taken a real methodical approach to free agency this year. They have not rushed into anything and have taken their time by first securing their own players, and then have looked around the rest of the league through free agency and trades to acquire other players at positions of need.

Fins have brought in Poe and Sheard, but let the walk do to too step a asking price.

Now in the third week of free agency, it appears they are still doing their due diligence to add a few more key pieces before the Draft approaches. One of those pieces could be Buffalo Bills Linebacker Zach Brown.

At only 27 years old, he has been in the league for just 5 years. He started out with the Tennessee Titans for his first 4 seasons in the league. He played well in Tennessee amassing 261 tackles, 10 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 6 interceptions in 3 seasons (In 2014 he did not play due to an injury). However, last year he went to the Bills and really exploded in the tackling department with 149 tackles last season, 4 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 interception. Brown is also the type of guy that can play any linebacking position on the field, and has the ability to make impact plays, which is evident from his above statistics.

Brown would fill the SAM LB spot, which is a big hole on the team

Not really sure what type of money Brown is looking for. or what type of money Miami thinks he is worth… but I do know that if Miami were to add Brown, then they would all of sudden have a legitimate stud linebacking unit with Alonso, Timmons and Brown. This would also mean that Miami would most likely cut Koa Misi, or at the very least make him take a pay cut if he wants to stay in Miami. I would love to sign Zach Brown, and most free bookie software fans would agree that if we added him, then all of sudden one of our weakest position groups on the team would now be one of our strongest groups.

Lastly, adding a player like Brown at a position of need would also cement home the fact that Miami will be preparing themselves to draft the best player available, because they filled in most of their most glaring needs this off season. It will be interesting to see what type of money Brown is looking for and whether or not Miami is on the same page.

Honestly, I wanted Brown more than Timmons. If they can somehow pull this off–although, it’s not likely due to the size of the contract he’ll likely command. But if they can, can you say Touchdown! Go Fins!!!

I read this article about a he NFL Rankings: Where all 32 teams stand after the free agency shuffle.

Rankings the Pat’s most impressive. The Dolphins got a solid grade by keeping players and the key is Tannehills Heath? The Pat’s did give up thier 1st and 2nd round picks for some of these players which I never believed in some. Sooner or later the Pats will out smart themselves. Brady goes down that’s their season at age 40 how much longer 5 rings now for him?

Great Defense? Shuts all doubters mouths!

I agree Miami should address the Offensive line issues.

    Let Truth be known
    TE David Njoku, Miami

Is on every Draft analysis Top 18th to 25th players Draft Board. My take Best value player for The Dolphins.

Right behind him is line backer Cunningham and Marion Humphreys + or – are both steady in the top 25 players. The top # 2 and 3 L/T are from 1st to 3rd rounds on different boards.

Seems logical the offensive Line Coach should have serious inputs he would be the experts.

Now! We just had to have a receiver two drafts ago over offensive linemen or D/L etc.

Who ever is drafted in the 1st and 2nd round should be without a doubt day one starter.

Drafting a guard day one is panic mold. They can be had day two a Tackle I would draft day one.

What is troubling we lose players and never appear to get compensated for them, where is there value?

We have much work to do on Defense. Offense has a lot to do with play calling and coaching. A coach must not suppress a player gifts to fit his system.

    Coach Lou Holtz “quoted”

Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

I’m not climbing on the band wagon Miami should go after the best value day one starter. This we can build around.

I’m all about winning The games that get us to the Super Bowl or why play the game or why are we fans of the Dolphins?

The PATs saw a winner in Brady over Drew Bledsoe and has not looked back. I believe the Fins are afraid of success? You draft the Best at every position no one is exempt. Are the Phins afraid of success?

I’m sure the Defensive & Offensive Coordinators knows exactly who is their ideal draftees but who is listening?

    Go Dolphins!

…uh, the Pats waited until the 6th round to draft Brady …it was a Hail Mary pick at best.

…we’re not getting anywhere near a SB until the OL is fixed

…the only “bandwagon” I’ve seen here is those wanting ever more defensive players at the expense of an OL that will enable our current QB/RB to get the job done instead of being constantly hit behind the line of scrimmage

…this draft is very deep in quality defensive players and extremely shallow on OL …that’s not my opinion but that of almost every draft guru …combine that with several teams needing OL …its why I was praying they could get two quality guards in FA …instead we got one reject FA and the lowest pff rated guard in 2016 was resigned …ask TH’s knee brace if that made it feel any better, eh

        Hello Lemmus

Hey drafting a quality Guard has always been neglected by the Dolphins since we lost Richie Incognito etc.

We have a shot at Ryan Ramczyk, Forrest Lamp or Garett Bolles. Strictly my opinion Dan Feeney Or Dion Dawkins would be a better Fit day two?

Im no expert! David Njoku or Zach Cunningham will demand Attention by opponents.

Either way the line and secondary coaches should have more input helping to make a final excessment

We finished 10-6 and Atlanta just one more win at 11-6 record got them to the supper bowl.

The Dolphins must have the players who can help us finish on top.

Once again my true concern is the Dolphins continue to trade away draft picks and we still have many positions to fill!😀

  • Dunner

Lemmus, you and I would like Bleacher Reports newest 7 round mock draft: we get Lamp and in the third we get Sydney Jones 😉

…they have too many QBs coming off the board in the 1st round imnsho …but I sure hope they are right …could be, there are a number of QB hungry teams above us

…I think the Packers will pick Lamp if we don’t …there are at least 2 other teams picking before us that could easily take him as well …if he’s there, take him …if not, take Freeny …be ok with either

…don’t want to trade down because the Packers are right behind us and are hurting at G due to FA losses

…if the top rated Gs are gone at #22 then other highly rated prospects have dropped at other positions, especially if the QB predictions are right …another reason not to trade down 🙂

…pff has its uses, especially at this time of year, its one of the few tools that are fairly objective in individual results …in season, they’re another story because they don’t rate the individual in his team’s context …imnsho of course

      • Lemmus

…damn! …he left without a contract …wants more than fins willing to pay …going back to Buffalo for visit …not entirely off the radar as yet, but likely …he had an offer from the Raiders but then they signed Jenkins instead.

  • Dunner

WOW, a PFF reference from Lemmus, we are making strides. Ha Ha, had to do it. I do agree with you about the possibility of picking a Guard at 22 if we were to sign Brown. I know FA’s are a gamble, especially one involving a scheme/defensive change (34 to a 43). However, I would think that there should be more pros then cons with this move; he is young, fast, play-maker, healthy. He could give us 3 LBers that had 120+ tackles last season, holy cow how would anyone run the ball on us??? The dangerous, would be that all 3 LBers would have played inside, though Timmons seems to be a natural “Mike” and same with Kiko at his “Will”, question would be Brown as a “Sam”? Also, if they sign him, this very well could allow us to draft a OL-Men (Guard) with our first pick. For me, I would trade down in this scenario, say with the browns and get their 33rd (second round) & 65th (third round) picks for our 22nd (first round) pick. We could still get our O-Guard at 33, either: Lamp, Freeny, while taking our DE (Wilis) with the 54th pick and use 1 of the 2 third round picks to take Sidney Jones.

I would be disappointed w missing out on Cunningham or Reddick, but I couldn’t complain one bit if it all shook out as mentioned. Above scenario would set us up for a promising future while addressing an immediate need while really pleasing Dunner (as if that matters).

I feel a trade out of the first round if they decide to sign Brown.

  • Lemmus

…pff ranked 17th LB overall off a 2016 1 year contract with the Bills at 1.25 mil where he excelled …young at 27, he should fall in the 4-6 mil range which is well within the cap, especially if Misi is cut or takes a pay cut as a result.

…only cons are that he has no 4-3 experience …anyone who thinks that’s a small matter doesn’t remember Dansby …FAs are always a gamble but this looks like a good one.

…biggest side benefit would be making it that much more likely the top pick will be OL …anyone thinking we are “set” at G is smoking some bad sh*t
…neither G slot has a starting caliber player on the roster and Pouncey’s injury history sucks
…there are a lot of fans who just don’t get the shift in the importance of the interior OL …but the days of the pass rush always coming from the edge are long past and the “get by” guards went out with them …especially here in Miami where we have a remarkable RB just entering his prime …most of our opponents this year are playing 4-3 which is subject to an interior run if the OL can open running lanes for the RB and spring him to the 2nd level …way too many times last year Ajayi was stopped behind the line because our interior didn’t block successfully …that needs to be fixed …now

…I hear the cries for LB, CB (and fear TBs love of them), DE, DT, and S at the top and waiting for the 5th to get “some” guards …I’m deaf to them …there are no starting caliber Gs beyond the 1st, if it goes as the gurus are calling it, while there are a sh*t load of such defensive players in this draft.

…signing Brown would be a huge plus in its own right …but freeing us to get a top guard in the draft is no small part of the deals attraction …imnsho
