Minkah Fitzpatrick Flees To the Steelers

With Minkah Fitzpatrick gone, there’s only one Fitzpatrick in South Florida now

The news came late Monday night that former 1st Round pick Minkah Fitzpatrick was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. While expected, it still came as a bit of a surprise. Minkah was sent north with a “2020 fourth-round pick and a 2021 seventh-round pick, in exchange for a first- and fifth-round pick in 2020 and 2021 sixth-round pick”.

This will give Miami three 1st Round picks alone next year and five over the next two drafts!

In total, Miami will have 14 selections come the draft day with 7 in the top 100 picks! Mindblowing because they might still end up trading away even more players for picks.

For Phinsnews, this is bittersweet. Both Jimmy and I were huge fans of the pick and expected Minkah to be a building block of the future. There was something about his story and reported personality that made you root for him.

Things aren’t always what they appear to be, it seems.

Minkah’s heel turn began early in this offseason when he made it clear that he wanted to know what position he would play so he could determine his playing weight. Some saw it as a warning sign. I defended him and dismissed it. But, then came his mother’s ‘Miko’ moment on twitter. Minkah agreed that his mother knew more than the coach… and he wasn’t happy.

His complaint was he had too many spots to handle. Odd response for a player that was said to be brilliant and had handled many positions.

While something was certainly rotten in demark… and South Florida (in retrospect), I put my hands to my ears, shut my eyes, and chanted, “nananana-nanana” till all the naughty voices were gone.

But even my intense denial melted away at his ‘request’–(demand)–to be traded. And his imitation of a zombie in run defense this week was the coup de grace for the Minkah in my imagination.

Now he is gone… and frankly, “There was the Minkah I made up, and Minkah the man.”

Minkah’s not a bad guy, but he’s not a great one either.

To quote an apropos comment from the Phinsnew boards by FlFred1 , “I just thought that Minkah was something more than a whiney young dude with talent. I suppose that I was wrong. Not the first time, and not the last.

Couldn’t have said it better.

Thanks for helping me to get to bed a little bit earlier, FlFred1!

GOOD NEWS: We have more picks than you can swing a stick at! Bet with the sportsbook business sites for bookies that this will be nitro on crack for Phin Fan ‘hopium’ this offseason. It will be the Golden Age of drafts of Miami… if we pick right.

Time to kick your inner hater into overdrive, give it all the magic you got, and root for the Steelers and Texans to circle the drain. So far, they are both 1-3 combined. Not too shabby. Winning. Go Phins!!!

Former Alabama QB who was beaten out by Tua is Jalen Hurst now with the Oklahoma Sooners is leading the nation, an if he continues he will most likely be the Hiezmen winner for this 2019 season. They cannot stop him in that conference.

I keep saying Jalen Hurst is not getting any respect. He is The Duo’s Quarterback. I’m certain because of NFL vision he may slide to the second round. Him and Tua both played QB together. The NFL cannot stopped them both.

We need to consider a 1st and 2nd round QB’s. Two.This 2020 draft will be very heavy in NFL quarterbacks. No excuse to take a mideocre quarterback from this draft.

What the deal on Fromm? I really, really need to start watching them… You are my lead scout, so thanks for all the info. I suck a college QB eval… I’ll watch Hurts, Burrow and Fields along with the rest… Eventually. To busy now watching the Phins games… man been atching them more this year than years past… my wife mocks me “Didn’t you watch that already” It’s like the Murray movie Groundhog Day. I’ll get to these QB likely during the Bye Week… thanks..

Well the Bulldogs QB Fromm is ranked about the number 4th QB in the nation. Originally Eason was the QB for Georgia but he got hurt a few years back and was not able to win his job back and change of coaching etc. so he went to his home state Washington as starting QB After Browning went Pro Look for Eason to make his way to the top 10. Fromm also held off Justin Fields he is ranked about number 11th best QB in the nation who left Georgia to play with Ohio State taking Garrett place as starting QB.

But Fromm is know to be the most Poised in the pocket QB.

The problem with today’s NFL is there are way too many “prima donnas” in this league. It is killing the sport! Even Fitzpatrick’s mother got in the action by saying that her son should not have to play all over the secondary, but should be able to choose what HE feels would be his best position! Can you believe this crap!! What happened to good old gratitude? Most of these kids came from the ghetto, and because of a God given talent, are able to play at the NFL level. I am constantly reading about this player or that player who is “unhappy” and wants to be traded or decides to hold out for more money. AB wanted out of Pittsburgh and goes to Oakland. He decides that it’s going to take too long to win here so I want to go somewhere else. The problem is that the Patriots are the Patriots so every elite player who wants out would love to go to New England. Thus, another possible 7th Super Bowl title. All this not helped by the fact that for years the Pats have had NO competition from within their own division. You can count on 6 or 5 wins easy every year from the AFC Least! This season I will check my phone on Sunday’s periodically but that’s it. I especially will not watch the Dolphins who will I fear continue to be the embarrassment of the league. When this team hit the re-set button, they hit it hard! The good news is that in 2020 we can start to climb back to respectability.

My nightmare is Pats go 16-0 and win the SB in Miami. The league doesn’t seem to care Brown is a total scumbag and McMillan reported on his one hit that the ref said “Stay off Tom”. Are you kidding me! Kraft was busted on video with prostitutes and is sitting with a big cat eating grin in every game. Brown has multiple accusations one throwing furniture off a balcony and almost hitting a kid to farting in doctor’s face and rape and the NFL doesn’t seem to care. I think 20-0 might be a lock. IF that’s the case, NFL could very well be entertainment and not a sport. Hope it’s not the case.
On another note, I think the Charger game could be a close game or a winner. If the D shows this week and the O improves, I’m still believing in my 6 wins… we’ll see.
2020 should be a load of fun… we’ll be the talk of the league… hope the same is said post draft.
I wouldn’t give up on the season yet, Stephen.

        MJ,

Thank you! However, I just don’t see six (6) wins or even close right now. Heck, this team could go 0-16! The purge is necessary. I believe that the team will trade Drake too! He has not been happy since Frank Gore came to the team last year. He wants to be the dominant every down back. He has skill and the speed to take it to the house. Good hands out of the backfield too. However, he stinks at pass protection and all of Pats RB’s have to be decent a picking up the blitz and protecting the QB. I think we could get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him. Load up on those draft picks! The guy wants to be the feature back and that is not going to happen under Flores and the Pats style offense. They spread the ball around and bring in multiple backs depending on the situation. If Drake is unhappy, I say send him packing too and get an early round draft choice or even a player swap like a good OL guy cause we could use him!

      • STEPHEN FABRIZIO

        MJ,

Sorry, one more thing, we can’t have six (6) wins, not even close! We need to draft Alabama’s Tua or Oregon’s Justin Herbert as QB. I believe both would be an upgrade to Rosen who I think can be a good QB, but not elite. We need a QB who will be in the top 10 year in and year out! Just my final thoughts.

No worries, Stephen… only time can shake out the truth… the rest is an opinion. I try to add as many facts to my opinion as I can to show I’m not just shooting from the hip or gut… and to provide a coherent trail of my thought process… but in the end, it’s just opinion as well. Now, if this regime is real good, I don’t think Tua is a must or the target. I also don’t believe this is a tank and I still see some wins… although Pats going 20-0 I see as well. Steve who comments know far more than me on college QBs… I suck at that, but, I didn’t like him in the bowl game, although that’s the only one I’ve watched of his. Also, this is a very system bound regime and the main question is do they see him as a fit or another Qb later as the fit. This could make getting the number one pick sticky if they have this mindset. It will all but force them to take Tua or get a media beat down. I believe from all I’ve studied and seen so far from Grier and Flores that they are beleivers in their process without bend… and in the Pats process the system makes the QB. We’ll see. I undertand my viewpoint is in the vast minority, but I can’t break my process of evaluation to say otherwise. Week 6 is my end point. By then, I’ll have reached my event horizon on my view of this regime for 2019… and maybe beyond.

I really give you credit you are that Die Hard fan. But just it case you haven’t noticed as Don M. Used to say on Monday Football Turn off lights the game is over not teddy Pendergrass turn off the lights let’s make sweet love together.

We need to be aware we are not the only 0-2 team. But it appears we are cut deeper and bleeding the most. The goal is number one draft picked.

2019 NFL Power Rankings, Week 3
        Denver Broncos (0-2)
        Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) …
        Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2) …
        Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) …
        New York Jets (0-2) …
        Arizona Cardinals (0-1-1) …
        New York Giants (0-2) …
Miami Dolphins (0-2) The Dolphins are an absolute train wreck. .that the good players refuses to ride on…

I wouldn’t say fan. When you watch the tape this team is failing due to mental failing not talent. As an example, the defense made major strides from Week 1 to Week 2. I see the same thing possible on the offense. If this does occur, then why not 6 games? The offense isn’t failing ‘caue the oline sucks’. The TEs and RBs were more responsible in Week 2. If this staff is good and trying, then they should grow. They are the youngest team, which means they will grow stronger as the season progresses. Add in they have 2 players returning from IR by week 8. Now, if this staff is like Gase’s then forget it. Also, you can get that 1st pick and with a crappy staff nothing real will occur. So, I do believe all the hype of how terrible this team is is a bit overdone. Could I be wrong… odds are I am. But I can’t agree till Week 6. It just wouldn’t be rational in my opinion.

Not lightly the PATs will win 16 games. I used to have a friend in the 80’s one of his saying was IF you’re not doing anything wrong you aren’t doing nothing? I never agreed to that statement but he sure did.
