More Encouraging signs: A Look back at day 2 of Mini Camp

On the Dolphins’ second day of mini-camp, it was the offense that outshined the defense. That is a very good sign because football fans would say that at the beginning of mini-camp, pre-season, and regular season the defense usually is ahead of the offense in productivity. I think the unsung hero of this mini-camp is the new offensive system that Bill Lazor has installed. It is a fast up-tempo offense, featuring a lot more pre-snap motion, which is creating beneficial mismatches for the Phins talented offensive playmakers.

Obviously it is still early, and the pads have not been put on yet, but there is a lot of upside for this team and the upcoming season. But it seems like there are a lot of talented players on the field, which is creating an overall higher level of competition and performance, which has not been seen during Miami’s mini-camps in years past. Another encouraging sign is that the forgotten rookie class of 2013, is beginning to show signs of life. From what I see so far, Jamar Taylor and Dion Jordan are not only heavily more involved with the starters, but they are also beginning to make plays as well. If these two players can contribute this season, then it will be an added bonus, because football is a “what have you done for me lately sport,” and these two youngsters didn’t even have the chance to show anything last year, so in most football betting software people’s eyes they were already written off as busts. In addition to these two sophomores, Mike Gillislee and Jelani Jenkins are beginning to flash potential as well.

Another bright spot was that Tannehill and the Phins are taking more shots downfield. Just so everyone knows, Tannehill and Wallace went 2 for 2 on the deep ball on the second day of mini-camp. Again, these are all very good signs, considering years past when Miami receivers hand a hard time catching the ball in practice. Practice makes perfect and if the Dolphins can continue on this upward trajectory as the off-season progresses then there could be exciting things to come in the regular season.
