NFC GM: “Phins Looking to Shake Draft”

Smokescreen, due diligence, or the real deal, Phins reported being very active in trade inquiries

How will Chris Grier flex his Draft Day muscle with all his picks?

The ‘word on the street’ is Chris Grier has the Miami Dolphins talking to everyone and their mother about draft-day trades. The quote being reported: “They’re shaping up to be among the biggest factors in this draft.” Are the Phins planning to shake the draft by trading picks to move up? Or do they plan to trade back and stack quality picks for the future? With so many picks and so many holes, Grier is likely to use a combination of both.

Every Phin fan expects Miami to move around this draft, so this report isn’t much of a shocker. Still, this report does put more confirmation that Grier will move at least one of their 1st Round picks up or down. If you are betting with the pay per head bookie services, the Phins sitting pat in Round 1 is the least likely scenario.

The million-dollar question is when Grier made all those calls which were a smokescreen, which due diligence, and most importantly, which was the real deal?

We’ll never know the answer to this question… until Draft Day that is. Of course, we football junkies will try to read the tea leaves anyway. Fans shouldn’t set their heart on anything being said at this point. At this stage, I’d say everything is just ‘feeler’ calls to gauge the market and the team’s interest in trades both up and down.

In reality, a trade up or trade down could be a winner with the right pick. The same can be said conversely because even the best deal will flop if the wrong prospect is chosen.

Here is Mike Freeman’s report on the Phins:
Quarterback evaluation will set the table for the whole draft

Chris Grier had this to say: “No team has really met many of these guys yet. When you get to know them that’s when you make your determination of what’s best for the franchise.”

While I don’t quarterback is the only position they’d move up for, it is the pin feather to their draft strategy.

Again, to quote Grier: “Every team will tell you it is important. I’m not going to sit up here and lie and say it’s not. It is important. Every team that has one feels really good about it and we want to get to that point.”

While the Dolphins are contacting AFC teams as well, the interesting part is that this rumor comes from an NFC General Manager. Was the GM from the Bucs, Cowboys or Panthers for a trade back? Or was her from the Redskins, Lions, or Giants for a trade-up? Who knows? But I’m sure the 5th Overall pick is all about the QB position.

How they view the quarterbacks in this class and the type of deals presented will set the stage for the Phins 2020 Draft. So, while Grier hasn’t set a direction yet, he is getting very close.

With the NFL Combine concluding in a few days and the draft only a tad more than two months away, the Dolphins are warp speeding to their most important moment in the last twenty years. Draft Day will be here before you know it. Go Phins!!!
