Grier & Co. believe they are ready to flip the switch… but will they really?
The word on the street was the Miami Dolphins were working full tilt to be buyers at the trade deadline. Instead, Chris Grier acted contrary to his character when it comes to trades and didn’t pull the trigger. Why didn’t we make trades to help get us on track?
Who knows.
Was Grier told by Ross whatever happens you are coming back next season, so save the ammo for the draft and don’t worry about the record? Or was it made clear to Grier ‘you built this team so make it work as is or else’?
What I do know is the Dolphins fanbase is divide about this team’s ability to win. Some, like me, wanted the Dolphins to sell off asset to entice a new General Manager. Other fans wanted to add to the talent pool because they believe that the Phins are ready to kick off an epic run and make the most season. Most fans sit in the middle ground of wait and see, wanting this team to win but expecting another letdown.
I think those who want to rebuild have better odds of being correct than those who think we will ‘shock the world’. But those who are in a ‘wait and see’ group are probably the wisest and likely will have the most fun in this second half of the season.
All we can do now as a fanbase is wait and see how this whole thing plays out to find out which segment of the fanbase was right.
Can the Phins Shock the world?!
While I get the fans who believe Miami will pull off the miracle, their position is the least likely of all three positions. Sure, we could rip off a long string of wins because even though the Phins have holes, they also have some serious high point talent especially on the offensive side of the ball. But only a handful of teams in NFL history have gone on to have a successful season after a 2-6 start. Also, the last three decades of Dolphins history has told fans hope leads to letdowns.
To be fair, this is the 2024 team and past team’s failures don’t directly affect today. While the Dolphins started out shaky, they did lose Tua over a very winnable stretch. If Tua hadn’t been hurt what would our record be? It certainly would have been a better record than 2-6, but would that alter the final outcome on the season? Would Miami have ended the season strong with a better than 2-6 record because of Tua or would the Phins have faded away… again?
Who knows?
There’s one road to success and it MUST start in L.A.
What I do know is that there aren’t any excuses now for Miami now.
None. We’ve used all of them up. It’s time for results, end of story.
Tua is back and a trio of winnable games with this Monday Night game being the toughest… and most crucial. Miami must win this week if the positive train of thought is on track. Despite my sour view on them, Miami has the potential to beat the Rams and even go on a 3-game win streak. I’m not saying that the Rams in their house won’t be tough, but they have flaws that match our strengths. Also, the loss of their right tackle and best offensive linemen, Joe Noteboom, last week is a huge shift to the Phins favor. Maimi has other edges as well being on turf making our speedsters faster than normal and the return of Zach Sieler.
You can bet with the best pay per heads that the right team would win this week and the next two home games after that vs. the Raiders and Patriots. This would give Miami a ton of positive mojo with a record of 5-6 heading into Green Bay to face the Packers and that’s where the final test begins.
Winning this week against the Rams is a critical first step.
Whatever you believe as a fan from ‘tear it down’ to ‘we are going all the way’, we all love the Miami Dolphins and want the best for them. Let’s see what these remaining games tell us about this team and regime. Time is the scythe between truth and lie, so by season’s end we’ll know what this regime is all about without any debate. Go Phins!!!
