Now Hill Is Looking for a Raise!

Hill wants a salary bump, but can Miami afford to give it?

The Miami Dolphins extended Jaylen Waddle to a long-term deal the other day and now Tyreek Hill is looking to get a pay raise. This new contract and Justin Jefferson singing a historic contract that has him not only the highest-paid wide receiver in the game but the highest-paid non-QB in the game. Of course, there would be a trickle-down effect on other wide receivers, Hill being the most important to Phins fans! So, it appears the Dolphins will have to pony up some more money if they hope to keep their top player happy.

Hill is the engine of the McDaniel offense

First, it was great to see Waddle get his because he is a great player and person, but we spent two first-round picks to draft him. Miami lost too much talent this offseason that they drafted themselves, so this was a good change in the right direction.

But, now it appears that Hill and his agent are itching for a raise with a contract adjustment. However, it seems the media and some of the best price-per-head software providers are making more of this than what is happening behind the scenes.

Yesterday Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Tyreek Hill’s deal will get a bump by the Dolphins. In addition, Hill was at OTAs today and even said to reporters that he’s not concerned about his contract because he doesn’t want to put the Dolphins in a financial hole.

Hil said, “I want to be able to help the team as much as I can, and obviously we already know that being greedy ain’t gonna help the team, so whatever happens, happens.”  He also mentioned that if push comes to shove, ensuring he retires a Dolphin will trump maximizing his earnings.”

Hill WILL get a raise and will be a Dolphins for a while more

There is no question Hill has been the best receiver in the league in his first two seasons with the team, so if Miami can find a way to give him a raise they should. However, he already has the highest cap number on the team at just over $31 million, and Miami still needs to come to terms on a new contract with Tua. Plus, Tyreek even said he wanted Tua’s new contract done yesterday. But clearly, Tyreek is hoping to get his contract restructured in a way that helps the team and invests in him for the rest of his career.

Miami needs to figure out a clever way to get Hill more money, but not in a way that raises his cap number because the Dolphins are tight against the cap until 2027. Miami must find a way to win and win big while they have Waddle and Hill. The only two real concerns for locking Hill up longer are his ton of off-the-field issues and that he is past 30 years old.

With the rising success over the last few seasons, this franchise is relatively new territory for a Miami Dolphins team that has been irrelevant for decades. Now that they have a decent team and a talented roster financial wisdom to keep it all together will be critical to have even more success.

Do the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans think they need to restructure Hill’s contract, or would you leave it alone and deal with that in the future?
