Observations from Mandatory Mini-Camp

The Dolphins were scheduled to have a three-day mandatory minicamp, however, they decided to wrap it up in 2 and use the third day to do a team-building Navy Seal training program. For most players, the Navy Seal training day was one of the hardest physical things that they have ever done in their lives and was a great team-building exercise.

During the short two-day minicamp that the Dolphins spent on the field, Ryan Tannehill had one of the best practices of his entire career. On Wednesday he threw 7 touchdowns and looked extremely comfortable and sharp on offense. This is Tannehill’s second year in Bill Lazor’s offense, and he is proving to be a very quick learner because this season he is actually coaching his players on offense on what they need to do. His new toys on offense are a bit behind because they need to learn a new offense, however, it is proving to be a good thing for Tannehill because it is allowing him to exude some leadership skills and coach up his offense. Tannehill already looks poised to make another big step up in improvement this season.

Suh is already playing like a beast, which means our run defense should definitely be improved this season. Check more about the pay per head bookie service sites like AcePerHead.com. In addition, our defensive line, which has been a strength on our team for a few years now, might finally be able to take the next step and become elite this season. Opposing offenses are going to have a very difficult time blocking both Wake and Suh when they line up side by side. Also, our D-line has a lot of depth with the new additions of Phillips and Mosley.

Lastly, the entire Rookie class is flashing, and I am betting that the Dolphins will have at least 4 of these players getting significant playing time this season  (Parker, Douglas, Ajayi, and Phillips). Even though Parker is recovering from his ankle surgery, he has played so well in practice that when he is fully recovered, he will quickly be inserted into the starting lineup. Douglas is already pushing Thomas for the starting Left Guard position and may overtake him by the beginning of the season. Ajayi looks healthy and appears to have already solidified himself as the number two running back, which means he will get a lot of snaps and opportunities to make plays. Phillips has been working hard and since Miami likes to rotate their defensive linemen, he will get plenty of snaps being 2nd on the depth chart. In addition, Lippett continues to make plays at cornerback and appears to be developing quicker than most initially thought. Lastly, both Thompson and McCain have made plays in the secondary and have been quick learners.

Now that the mandatory minicamp is over, the next time the Dolphins will meet for team activities is in about 6 weeks in mid-July for the start of training camp. Hopefully, these players take these next 6 weeks to improve on areas of their game and stay in shape.
