Odds Favor Weaver Staying… & Bevell Going!

The Miami Dolphins have moved through coaches like poop through a goose, but Darrell Bevell has been one of the few clearly positive constants through McDaniel’s tenure in South Florida. Bevell’s time though may be coming to an end as he’s set to be interviewed by Pete Carroll for the Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator position. From all reports, Bevell has the inside track to the job due to his experience, success, and relationship with Carroll, who said in 2017 “Darrell has a great reservoir of stuff that he’s done and he’s a really good play caller. He finds explosive plays in every game plan. He’s done a great job.”

Bevell will almost certainly accept the position if offered it. Now Miami has to wait to see if that offer comes or not! I think it’s a good bet with the best pay per head that they do, but I hope like heck I’m wrong!

Bevell & Weaver are big keys to the Phins 2025 Season

On the flip side Bevell being likely to move on, the good news is the tea leaves are pointing to the New Orleans Saints offering Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore the head coaching position over Weaver. The Saints just had a defensive coordinator in Dennis Allen, and they are likely wanting to head back to the Sean Payton days with an offensive leader.

Why Bevell will be missed?

Like him or not, wanting him here or not, Tua will be the Dolphins quarterback, and his play will go a long way towards any success we have. Even if we draft another quarterback, Bevell is a big piece to the quarterback puzzle. Bevell was offensive coordinator with the Seahawks in the Superbowl win and Superbowl appearance, he also helped Tua to his two best seasons in 2022 and 2023. I’m also sure as a long-time offensive coordinator and two-time interim head coach that he helped McDaniel quite a bit too.

Bevell is a good coach, but let’s also keep it in perspective

Now, Bevell also made the call in Super Bowl XLIX to throw the football in the endzone rather than let Marshawn Lynch punch it in and we struggled mightily this season. So, Bevell has some skeletons in the closet, but I think he’s a coach that’s done far more good than bad in this league and Tua and McDaniel will miss him if he moves on.

I don’t see it as a total disaster for the Dolphins if Bevell moves on as long as they draft well. But, if both Weaver and Bevell move on, then don’t hold me to this evaluation! Let’s hope not because I can’t survive too many more disastrous seasons! Go Phins!!!
