Oddsmakers Predict Phins NFL’s Worst: ‘Perfect’

For some fans, a terrible prediction for the Phins 2019 Season is a ‘good thing’

Phins are given The worst odds for success in 2019

If the oddsmakers are right, the Phins will end up with the worst record in the NFL this season.

This would mean ‘mission accomplished’ for operation “Tank for Tua”…

… or whatever you want to call it.

Normally, this gloomy forecast is something that Phins fans, including myself, would cringe at. However, Miami must find a franchise quarterback to break this two-decade funk, and the best odds in finding one is with a Top 5 Pick.

Phins odds to make the 2020 Super Bowl are terrible

The Dolphins have THE worst odds with the pay per heads like Ace Per Head, of any NFL team to win the Super Bowl next season at +20,000. This means that risking $100 on the Dolphins to win the Super Bowl you would win 20k. The Lions are next worst but are +15,000.

We are at the bottom by a long shot.

Now, will the Phins actually finish with the worst record next year? This is the million dollar question?

It’s hard to say if the recent signing of Ryan Fitzpatrick will actually help or hurt us from getting the top overall pick.

Personally, I would have rather not signed any Free Agent QB. I would have gone with what we have and a Quarterback picked from this draft no earlier than the 2nd Round.

This would have done two things: Given us a young QB to roll the dice on and be poised to get a top pick next year… if the pup doesn’t bite early.

Ryan Fitzpatrick complicates matters if Miami wants a Top 5 pick in 2020

The signing of Fitzpatrick doesn’t remove a QB from our draft list. We all know he’s just a stop gap.The main problem is if he over-performs and we are stuck in that no man’s land of 5 to 7 wins–again.

This endless cycle of mediocrity is a double whammy of suck keeping us from getting a top pick and on the outside looking in at any real success.

A ‘good sign’ that the Phins are still on track to be one of the worst teams is that the Dolphins now have over $35 million in cap space. Only 5 other teams in the NFL with more cap space available. Miami didn’t go on a spending spree for the win-now approach. They finally decided to get their house in financial order. This will help us down the road when we are ready to make a move.

While Miami’s quiet Free Agency helped our Cap… we have tons of holes to fill–Mostly in the trenches.

What we need to do won’t bring wins in 2019… But it will in 2020

This should all lead to the Dolphins focusing on improving the less glamorous but all important positions in the linemen on both sides of the ball

Again, the Dolphins should draft a QB in this upcoming draft, it just doesn’t need to be in the first round.

For the rest of the picks, the Dolphins should double and tripling down on Offensive and Defensive Lineman. I know we need linebackers, another running back and cornerback… but those needs can wait.

This draft should be all about building and solidifying the trenches with young able bodies. If we can stick to that plan then we can focus on drafting the skill position in 2020. The Phins have repeatedly failed to solidify the trenches on both sides of the ball, and as a result, we have been a soft team. Let’s hope this regime has learned from history… and don’t repeat it.

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts in the draft and predictions for the 2019 Season?

    The curse of the QB
August 1, 2012 Jimmy Bourbon Miami Dolphins News, Phins Qb
From 1970 until 2003 the Miami Dolphins have only had 2 losing seasons. I did a double take myself when I saw that statistic of only 2 losing seasons in 34 years. (1976 they went 6-8, and 1988 they went 6-10. Five of those seasons they finished with a .500 record of 8-8. This leaves a jaw dropping 27 seasons that they had a winning record.) Sometimes as phins news fans we need to check the history books, to be reminded of why we love our team so much, even though they have not preformed up the same high standards over the last 8 years. The Dolphins are like a child of ours that we love unconditionally, even when they disappoint us at times. (From 2004-2011 they have had 6 losing seasons. That is just sick. Talk about a swing in fortunes, in only 8 years the Dolphins have tripled their losing seasons, compared to a time frame of 34 years.)

Obviously when a team is blessed with two hall of fame quarterbacks like Dan Marino and Bob Griese that played for a combined 31 years, then there is no surprise that the Dolphins racked up so many winning seasons. It is also no surprise that after the retirement of Dan Marino this team has been on the ultimate QB carousel ride, and the end result has been a devastating fall from grace.

This look back into the history books, clearly drives home the point more than ever, that even though football is a team sport, a teams success rests squarely on the shoulders of their signal caller. Football gambling fans will admit that with out the key ingredient of a stud QB, it is an extremely difficult up hill battle for a team to be able to consistently compete with the Tom Bradys, Eli Mannings, and Aaron Rogers of the world. The question is do the Dolphins have someone special on the roster who can finally bring back the glory days to a fan base that is desperately clamoring for something good to cheer about?

They talk about curses in other sports, like the Chicago Cubs, or the Boston Red Sox, but it appears the Dolphins have their own curse, the curse of the QB.

That excellent write up received zero responses? Because we cannot handle the truth and Nothing has change. Why? Because we failed to draft a hall of fame Quarterback? We simply deceived ourselves for two decades. We cannot be afraid If we failed draft a qb again.Bob Greise and Dan Marino were not project Quarterbacks .

Admin and Fin Fans How did we go this many years without investing in the Quarterback position? One picked in the 1st round in twenty years.

    2000 — No pick — — [o]
2001 26 Jamar Fletcher Defensive back Wisconsin
    2002 — No pick — — [p]
    2003 — No pick — — [p]
2004 19 Vernon Carey Offensive tackle Miami (FL) [q]
2005 2 Ronnie Brown Running back Auburn
2006 16 Jason Allen Defensive back Tennessee
2007 9 Ted Ginn, Jr. Wide receiver Ohio State
2008 1 Jake Long * Offensive tackle Michigan
2009 25 Vontae Davis Cornerback Illinois
2010 28 Jared Odrick Defensive tackle Penn State [r]
2011 15 Mike Pouncey Center Florida
    2012 8 Ryan Tannehill Quarterback Texas A&M
2013 3 Dion Jordan Defensive end Oregon [s]

    2016 13 Laremy Tunsil Tackle Mississippi [t]
2017 22 Charles Harris Defensive end Missouri

This does not warrant drafting any quarterback but truly A 1st rounder if we go that route any season.

Tanking is not new to the Dolphins

The 2002 Miami Dolphins season was the team’s 37th as a member of the National Football League. The Dolphins failed to improve upon their previous season’s output of 11–5, instead winning only nine games.[1] The team missed the playoffs for the first time in six seasons. I think this was the beginning of wining 8 to 9 games standards with the Dolphins.

Grier’s wasn’t good… but he was nursing a bum ankle… least that’s my excuse. Lock keeps coming up around the Phins. Still leery about him. Haskins has warts too and I don’t think he drops to #13. He seems more solid than excellent. He had soooo many screens that padded his stats. Such a tough job evaling QBs and their transition to the NFL…

One will get drafted in the 1st round and maybe the better quarterback will get drafted in the 3rd or 4th round?

I’ve said it before… my college QB evals are not my strong suit… I’ll keep looking at them. I’m making a little game for myself. Evaling them and seeing how they do and giving myself a grade… I need to improve in this area.

  • Van E Hamlin

The offensive line purge leaves the idea of any quarterback being effective out in the cold. This will be a very hard season for running backs and quarterbacks.
Anyone stupid enough to purchase a season ticket should ask for a discount.
    Vegas knows!
Ironically, any drafted QB needs to pray that he never steps on the field this year.
We need to put together an improved offensive line.

    • admin

This is just my opinion van, I’m not trying to claim it as fact: But, I think that Gase’s tenure, through scheme, system, and play call, diminished the offensive line. Even still, they perform pretty well despite horrendous injuries. IF Grier and Co. install something like up in NE, I can see Davis take another step forward this year (2017 PFF 52, 2018 PFF 55.8). I can also see him playing T where he is a better fit. Tunsil was pretty good and should do better this year. RG has Reed and Asiata there and Center Kilgore and Hilland. I see LG as the big need and possibly RT… a good backup for sure. So if Miami can find two positive pieces on the OL (three would be better, maybe a UDFA or late vet FA). This line should be good. The drops and style is very conducive to O-Linemen. Now all this is based on how well they draft and coach. if they can do both in a B-B+ level then I see medicoricty on all levels… this is good enough for the end goal… but Year 1 it is… if they find their QB this year or can find one later or trade up next.

If Haskins is there at 13, we MUST take him, as FitzMagic is going to get us 6 wins at least. Look at the group of pass catchers he has to throw to: Stills is FAST, Wilson is FAST, Grant is REALLY FAST, Gesiki is FAST, Drake is FAST…what team in the league has a faster group of guys for Fitz to throw to??? You KNOW FitzMagic is going to have a 3 game winning streak…he’ll have another 3 stellar perfomances throughout the rest of the year too…that’s 6 wins, and no top 10 pick finish there. We’ll pick up another 1 to 3 wins along the way and finish in mediocrity with middle round picks AGAIN. Unfortunately, Haskins will be GONE, so our only hope is lots of trade downs to get 2020 picks as we’ll have to package a bunch of picks to move up to get someone, which will make our rebuild take all that much longer. Signing Fitz was DUMB…it almost assures us of medoicrity again. What if he has a carreer year??? We might even make the playoffs only to get blown out in the first round. I don’t think we’ll actually make the playoffs, but 9-7 to 10-6 will have us picking in the 20’s…no chance of packaging enough to move up to get a top QB without delaying our rebuild for at least 2 years past 2020.

    Scott

I root for Miami and anybody that plays the cheats, Jets and the Crimson Tide!

Scott, I agree on everything you say, this is why I think the QB they want is in this draft. I believe they must have three options (at least) one if luck delivers at #13 and one they can surely get after a trade back…. and one to trade up if close. We’ll see if it’s dumb or not. I get a brilliant or dumb vibe from this… this Draft and how it goes will offer a very solid bit of evidence to show us what we have…
