Mathematically the Dolphins are still alive, but the rubric cube quantum physics equation is not worth getting into, and the reality is they will need to win out and a miracle worth of Holiday help to get into the playoffs. However, that does not mean that they can’t at least gather their collective pride and finish the season strong by winning their last two games and finishing with a winning record of 9-7.

The Dolphins play their last two games at home and against below .500 teams in the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets. The best bookie software sites like www.AcePerHead.com in the world will have the Dolphins as the favorite to win each of these games, however, the Dolphins must actually go out onto the field and prove it on the scoreboard. Even if they win their two remaining games, they probably will not be playing in January, however, a 9-7 record is not something that should be looked at as a total failure. I know the theory going into this season was playoffs or bust, but again if they can at least finish strong and end the season with a 9-7 record, then that can at least be viewed as a steady improvement.

In 2011, the year before Philbin took over as head coach, Miami went 6-10. In Philbin’s first season in 2012, they went 7-9, and last year they finished at .500 at 8-8. If they can win out then that would make them 9-7 with steady one-game improvement each season. Nothing to get excited about, however, things could be worse, and they could be losing more games as each season passes. In addition, the previous 10 seasons have only produced 2 seasons in which the team had an above .500 record, so if Miami can win out then at least a winning record is something to be proud of and be built off.

Obviously all the players on the Dolphins and the fans would like to see Miami win a Super Bowl, but that is clearly not happening this season. But let’s be honest, the franchise is many many many years removed from winning Super Bowls and having an undefeated team and a dynasty. This franchise has basically been a whipping boy and laughing stock of the NFL for the past decade, so even though a possible 9-7 is not producing a playoff appearance or a Super Bowl Championship at least it is stepping in the right direction. And here is something else to think about, what if Miami did or does make the playoffs and they get blown out in the first round on the road, would that be considered that Miami achieved their goal, getting completely embarrassed and showing we didn’t belong in the playoffs with these higher caliber teams?
