Phins 2015: Top 5 Offense & Defense
We are less than a week away from the start of the 2015 season! The expectations and hopes are high, higher than Miami fans have had yet to feel this century. It may be a bold statement, but honestly when was the last time you Miami Dolphins News fans were this excited and optimistic about an upcoming season based on the roster at hand?
As I mentioned in an earlier article, this team has the chance to have a top 5 defense and a top 5 offense. Yes, it sounds very optimistic, but “IF” that can be achieved most of the best sportsbooks in the world would put the Dolphins odds at winning the AFC East pretty high.
This is why my prediction isn’t “pie-in-the-sky”:
It’s a fact Tannehill has had a great camp and has once again improved from the year before. It’s also abundantly clear that Tannehill is more comfortable running the offense and that his game speed has also increased. I am looking forward to seeing Tannehill become more of a coach on the field, making the audibles that he sees fit, based on the defenses facing him. Those are the traits of an elite QB, and this season, he will have more feel for the offense to be able to develop these traits. Let’s remember ‘Tanny’ was Chem major so he has a lot of brains under that helmet!
In addition, the Dolphins have a lot of weapons on offense that can either make yards after the catch or can pick up yards after contact on the ground and in open space. Lamar Miller has gained 10 to 15 pounds of muscle this off-season, but he looks just as fast as before. In addition, during the preseason Miller was a key element in the short passing game. For those of you fantasy football fans, I would suggest taking a shot on Miller, because he has the chance to be a top 5 fantasy running back, because he can do it all. I also believe that Jarvis Landry can be one of, or if not the best slot receiver in the league. His hunger and competitiveness is something that can not be taught, and it has been demonstrated to be contagious to the rest of the team.
On defense, the addition of Suh is going to work wonders on our run defense and our pass rush. Our defensive line is one of the top ranked D-lines in the league. If a team can win in the trenches they put themselves in a very good position to win the game. The pass rush with Suh, Wake and Vernon is going to be smothering, and it is going to help the rest of the defense have an easier job doing their jobs. There is a strong possibility that our defense can have 5 pro bowlers. Grimes, Wake and Suh are all former pro bowlers, so the reasonable expectation is that they can play at that level again this season. The fourth player I would put on that list is Reshad Jones, who has been an absolute beast this season, and most of the best sportsbooks in the world are betting that he will be a top ranked safety this year. Lastly, the steady eddie tackling and impact play maker Jelani Jenkins, looks even better than last season, which could make him an under the radar linebacker to have a pro bowl year.
I’ll drop the mic and leave it at that. What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans expectations for this upcoming season and for individual players?

top 5? laughable. Expectations high? When in the last 10 years have the Fins not been undefeated going into the opening game of the season? Exactly.
Expectations are high and rightfully so.
We do have very talented, and athletic players on this team.
The front office has done an excellent job, and we hope they continue to do so.
I was waiting for all the teams to make all the cuts down to 53 and was a bit surprised that we only picked up a third string QB for our 53 man team
I thought that there might be an offensive line player that had been replaced by a rookie and cut or that a team with too many good OL players might cut one and try to put one in their practice squad and we could pick up at least one additional backup or starter for our OL
I guess it’s still possible although I would have thought that might happen within a day or two of the cuts
I guess there aren’t any that we are interested in
That being said I hope we don’t have any more injuries because the players we do have can take us to the playoffs finally
I agree next year we will really be Super Bowl contenders. We are only 2 or 3 players away from having the ideal team and who knows maybe some of those are already on our team
I hope we start out 6-0 for our first 6 games and earn the respect we are due from the broadcasters
Yeah, I agree we are close …and a bit thin. BUT, this team is making wayyyy more right moves than flops. To me we need luck and Philbin to go to the next level in clutch situations and it’s playoffs. Still not sure even with that we can go to the BIG dance this year, but much stranger things have happened!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FIIIIIIIINNNNSSS!
I agree I was very surprised we signed a third QB, instead of another Guard. Maybe they are thinking Logan Thomas can take over the second string position from Matt Moore
I would think so. This is his last year on the team. No way he gets resigned. He always looks pretty bad in pre-season games against 2nd team defenses. If we need to get cheaper, a few million for your back-up QB is where I would start. I think they even gave MBT all the room to take the job but he sucked even more. They didn’t pick up Josh Freeman as a restoration project to trade him down the line. They have been trying to replace Moore since last year, but neither Devlin, Freeman, nor MBT was able to show absolutely anything. Now they bring in this guy to see what he can do with the offense. The measurables are impressive.
