Phins Brass Open To Tua Starting Week 1

The Phins are ‘They’re open to Tua being the starting quarterback’

Some interesting chatter hit the media outlets saying that the ‘Dolphins brass is open to Tua starting Week 1’. Sure, it’s all ‘just talk’ at this point, and what else would the Phins say about their future franchise quarterback? While Miami hasn’t even met Tua yet because of the pandemic, it’s still interesting to hear that Tua will be given a chance to start…

… even if it’s ‘just talk’.

Despite the reported chatter, the sportsbook software or best pay per head software like www.AcePerHead.com is still showing Ryan Fitzpatrick as the -650 money line favorite to start week one, along with Tua at +300 and Rosen at +1750. This line means a bettor needs to risk $650 on Tua being the week one starter to win just $100. These odds make Fitzpatrick a pretty big favorite to start.

Though most analysts thought the Phins would use Tua’s rookie season as a redshirt year, it’s not surprising to hear that Miami is open to starting him right away… if he actually earned the job.

Let’s not forget who the Phins coach is now…

Last year, Flores could have given Rosen a full year dress rehearsal. Instead, Flores benched him because of poor play and put Fitzpatrick back in because ‘Fitzmagic’ gave them the best chance to win. Flores made this move despite the reality that putting in Fitzpatrick hurt their chances of getting the #1 overall pick. But, Flores didn’t come here to get the top pick, groom high draft picks or expensive Free Agents because of their value, or play favorites to talented players. Coach’s message to the organization and fans from Day 1 was ‘I’m here to win’, and he hasn’t swerved from that goal.

So, if Tua proves to be the best quarterback on the field, then he’ll start… and babying him because of his injury history doesn’t seem to be the plan.

Well, that’s the ‘chatter’, anyway.

Many coaches around the league already believe that Tua will beat out Fitzpatrick and start Week 1 against the Patriots. This sounds a bit premature to me because Tua hasn’t even stepped on the field yet. But, it does show the hype for Tua is hot.

Tua will start eventually! The only question is when?

Again, I had zero problems with the Phins picking Tua and then taking it slow with him this upcoming season. And if Fitzpatrick wins the spot, I’m fine with that too. I’d actually like to see what he can do with an improved roster. At the very least, after his 2019 performance, Fitzpatrick has earned that right to make a legitimate run at the playoffs before Tua takes over… if he wins the starting spot.

Competition is also part of the culture that Flores is trying to build here. So, bottom line: the best man will play. If that happens to be Tua, the good news is we won’t have to wait too long to see him in action. If not, we get to see what Fitzmagic will do.

Obviously, the health of Tua is going to be a major topic for years. In April it was reported that Tua felt ‘100%’. Is Tua’s estimation of his ‘100% healthy’ actually the truth or ‘just talk’? Barring setbacks, I don’t see health being an issue for Flores come September. I think he’ll do what best to win now.

It will be fun to see it all unfold. Can Tua beat out the journeyman Fitzpatrick? If he can, what does that say about his future… and Josh Rosen’s?

What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins news fans’ thoughts on possibly seeing Tua start Week 1 in New England?

I find articles like this less than genuine. If asked, management has no alternative other than saying, “Sure! Tua is our guy! If he is ready, he is going to play.” Then some so-called journalist writes this story and asks the questions about Journeymen and second stringers. In a week or two everyone that counts moves on.

It is May 28, 2020. We don’t even know what kind of season this will be. Let’s wait until Tua has thrown a few really nice deep passes before we hand him they keys to the new car.

I wouldn’t risk him starting the year let the O-line get their thing together and players get use to each other and get timing down.

That’s my mindset, Albert. Jimmy is good with, but not me. I don’t see any negative to having him wait till next year. Now, if he plays far better than Fitz… what are you going to do? I don’t see that happening though. Better safe than sorry is my thought on Tua.

Oh, had to approve your post before it published. Thought you posted before? Jimmy told me that I only have to approve first-time posters. IDK… Wacky system.
