Phins Continuing to Make Moves!

Phins bringing a roster with a nice blend of youth and experience in 2022

The Miami Dolphins added another veteran to the roster, continuing to show they are going all in this season. The addition of edge player Melvin Ingram is good move at a reasonable price and one of many good moves this offseason. Sprinkling in a few older veterans is a quality strategic move because not only do these players add tons of valuable experience, they help coach-up the youngsters. But, if you make the right selection these types of players can have something left in the tank and also be factors on the field!

Melvin Ingram can still play in limited duty

Melvin Ingram III has been in the league since 2012 and is a former 3x Pro Bowl from 2017 to 2019.  Ingram is a player we have kicked the tires on before in years past and even had come in for a visit in early April this year. It’s been reported that ingram received a one-year contract for $5 million, which most of the pay per head sportsbook sites are betting is a good deal on a veteran pass rusher.

Ingram has 51 career sacks, 14 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries and 3 interceptions over the course of 10 seasons in the NFL. However, registered zero sacks in 2020 playing only 7 games and had 2 sacks in 2021… but did have 2 sacks and a forced fumble in the playoffs last year. I don’t expect Ingram to magically turn back into a Pro Bowl player, however he can definitely be effective for us next year, if used properly.

Ingram is a player that Defensive Coordinator Josh Boyer can use in situational pass rushing times on defense to give an added boost to our pass rush. It will be more about quality snaps than quantity of snaps. Ingram will be utilized for his strengths on obvious pass rushing downs, where he does his best work of getting to the QB. With Phillips and Ogbah entrenched as the starters, Ingram can get the opportunity to prove his worth as a rotational player.

Ingram can spice up a already spicey defense

It’s nice to see veteran players buying into what is going on in Miami and opting to sign with us. That hasn’t always been the case over the last few decades. With a state that has no income taxes, beautiful weather year round, and now possibly a football team that is ready to make a serious playoff push, Miami may again become a very desired hotspot for free agents.

It’s great to have a young team like we’ve had for a few seasons, but you always need veterans. All these young bucks need vets to take them under their wings and teach them subtle nuances of the game and give advice on how to properly live the life of a professional sports athlete. These guys are the foundation and the rock in the locker room, who add just as much value on the field as off the field. Maybe this influx of vets will get us to turn the finally turn the corner!

Hopefully Miami can live up to the expectations this season and make the playoffs.

Great move! I heard we are also talking to Akeem Hicks (DT Chicago), and Reggie Dunlap (DT formerly Bengals). Not sure if these guys have signed with anyone, but as of a few weeks ago I read that agent Drew Rosenhaus who represents many top NFL talents was talking to the Dolphins. If available, I would like to see at least one added. Steve.
