Phins Draft High Value in Talent & Needs

The Miami Dolphins’ Chris Grier pulled in a ton of value on Day 3 by pulling the trigger on talented players projected to go much earlier than when the Phins selected them. Add in explosive edge rusher Chop Robinson in Round 1 and mammoth offensive tackle Patrick Paul on Day 2, and this draft could end up a very good one when all is said and done. Yes, the Phins needed an impact interior defensive lineman and more help on the offensive line than just Paul. But from a value standpoint and potential standpoint, the Dolphins were given the 2nd best value grade on their selections with Detroit Lions at #1 and Kansas City Chiefs at #3. Also, they needed to add a young offensive tackle, edge players to fill in for Chubb and JP, and recievers, so they also did address some needs.

When you go over each player only safety Patrick McMorris doesn’t offer some clear hope or some obvious elite trait. Now what will it all amount to and will this draft class drive us deep in to the post season this year? I can’t say that, but the talent and value brought to the team is clear. And that’s not a bad thing at all!

Talent is king in the NFL!

It doesn’t take the best football software to know the NFL is a game of horses and by all accounts the Dolphins brought in a bunch of talented players. Below is a graphic based on the projected valued of the Dolphins draft selections. Will the value rating play out like this down the road, I don’t know. Still this is a good a sign that this draft went well from a talent standpoint.

  1. Round 1·Pick (21) Chop Robinson EDGE “Compared to Micah Parsons light”
  2. Round 2·Pick (55) Patrick Paul OT “Massive 6’8” 340lbs man, who must work a ton on his polish”
  3. Round 4·(120) Jaylen Wright RB “Young Raheem Mostert”
  4. Round 5·(158) Mohamed Kamara EDGE “Violent defender with 3rd RD projections who runs a 4.57 forty”
  5. Round 6· (184) Malik Washington “shifty, strong and fast slot reciever who could take the 3rd reciever spot”
  6. Round 6·(198) Patrick McMorris SAF “Nothing I see notable about this player”
  7. Round 7 (241) Tahj Washington “Another shifty speedster to contend for a reciever job”

Talent is king, but team trumps king

Miami added a ton of potential and some undeniable talent. But, will all this speed and skill talent be enough to drive the 2024 Dolphins to post season success or the division title? Will the offensive line step up enough to let the skills and Tua succeed or will they again be a thorn in the team’s side? Will the Dolphins feel the loss of Christians Wilkins in the middle of the defense or can Zach Sieler and Co. make the defense not skip too much of a beat?

These questions won’t be answered for a while, but we need to see what else Chris Grier does to add talent to the roster and then see how it all works together on the feild. Bottom line: there’s some real potential and athletic talent in these selection that gives genuine hope that we got this draft class right!? Now will this collection of players come together as a team that can win big this year? That will have to wait and see!
